Help in selecting 10 in woofer for a 3 way system
Kindly help your help to choose a 10 inch bass driver for a 60L enclosure net volume, which will be able to play reggae style containing deep bass and also pop music which can translate well solid kick drums sound as in Police music ? I have done some search and I have come across some bass drivers that would suit my budget max 125 euros : Visaton W250S, Scanspeak CA26RFX , Beyma 10BR60V2 , HI VI F10 .

What other 10 inch bass drivers can you suggest for the above use having SPL between 89 and 92 ?
Finally what type of enclosure do you suggest : Vented or sealed?
Crossover will be around 500Hz at 6dB

Many thanks
ALDO

I'm looking for the exact same thing right now (impactful kickdrums) and I'm leaning heavily towards the Peerless NE265W-04 10" driver. My only real choices are this one and the HiVi D10.8. The Peerless one matches my midbass unit so I like that one better. I'd really rather get the 12" NE315W version but the only vendor I have access to with good prices doesn't carry it.

Do tell us what you decide to go with 🙂

thank you for the wealth of info re the Tarkus. My main constraint is max limit of usd 140 or euros 125
per bass driver so up to now the suggested driver Peerless remains the best option. i welcome more suggestions for good and thumpy bass drivers, as I shall be purchasing the drivers when going to Paris around march 19. as here in Mauritius ( a lost island in the indian ocean) hifi diyer shops are unknown and diyers are easily counted on one hand.

An Audio Technology 10 C 77 25 10 KAP in 50/60 liter vented is hard to beat.
As you have space for 60 liter, make it 45/50 with extra stiff panels. Spending some extra time and material in making the enclosure more rigid will be very rewarding.

Just to get a precise idea of what drivers I am looking for, here is a list of types of bass reproduction that I am looking for :
1. Bob Marley –Zion train and Bad card (Deep electric bass)
2. Eric Clapton & B.B. King - Three O'clock Blues (Deep electric bass)
3. Jiangzhou drums - Buffaloes Tiger from album Marantz hi end audiophile test cd 11
( Good example of deep resonating drums)
4. Jane Montheit - Honeysuckle rose ( Instrument Jazz double bass) Excellent interpretation.

My actual bass drivers are monacor 10 inch SPH255 which seem ok from specs but in actual world hard to tune and bass starts to be heard at very loud volume. So my additional requirement is to get acceptable deep bass at moderate level with a 10 inch driver in a 60L enclosure at reasonable cost euros 125

The problem is often the same, wrongly designed filter and the proof is "bass starts to be heard at very loud volume". "Hard" to tune means probably that TSP differ from manufacturer ones, also quite often a case. I had exact same woofer, double voice coil version and it performed like a champ. A couple of steps in the right direction with some assistance and you are good. Read on how to setup your measurement gear with ARTA software suite or REW.

Give me some details about your enclosure volume , vent length and crossover details. FYI I had worked on measured TS measurements by LIMP and worked on all enclosure possibilities from bassbox and other software :unibox, lspcad , winisd etc etc etc .. , but up to now never got acceptable satisfaction.

I suggest you do the following in order someone to work on the solution. Present all the data that you have acquired yourself either by measuring or using third party values, take photos of all the details regarding physical aspects of the enclosure, as much detailed as you can, with schematics of filter used.
