Hi,
I've had several Lintons and Denton's including one of the new version Dentons which rather disappointed. Also several others - the only ones I kept were the larger models with 10" or 12" bass drivers - these were fine.
I found all the smaller models rather muffled despite doing all of the usual cap changes. However, a simple remedy was found (sacrilege some will say!)
That is to upgrade the mid/woofer to a Mordant Short DSB 208, 8" driver from their early range ( Festival etc)
Readily available and cheap! Always a good start!
Only problem is the need to slightly open out the mounting opening - the results are quite worth the work involved.
I've even modified them to accommodate a 2" port making them into reflex models akin to the way Mordant Short use them.
I realise this will be frowned on by some, but the sound is the thing for me 🙂

Indeed, the Linton 2 speakers I bought way back in 1974 were rather dull and unexciting and were soon sold on.
I have a pair of same era Denton 2 speakers that belonged to a friend and which share the same characteristics.
I've played around with them, recapping/modifying the crossovers etc., but they still sound lacking in excitement.
I've toyed with the idea of installing different 8" drivers, but it's a case of having too many speakers and not enough time!
The best thing about the Dentons is their sturdy, teak veneered enclosures that warrant a complete refurbishment as shown above.
P.S. The OP's Linton 8" drivers have cast alloy frames and likely sound superior to the ones with the pressed metal frames in my Lintons and Dentons. The large square magnet assembly also suggests a superior quality of driver. Cost cutting surely followed that particular version of the Linton 2.
