If only I didn't have so many Whammy's already. So the Beyerdynamic phones are open air and 250 ohms, correct? From what I can tell, the Whammy will drive damned near anything. In fact, I had to pad down my input quite a bit so that I could use more volume control. And I have the same 2134 in mine. Cool to be able to change out op amps for a particular sound.
I have the Beyer DT770 Pro (250 ohms, sealed back) with the Whammy, they sound great. I have Senn HD600 and Audio Technica ATH R70x and both sound very nice, but I keep coming back to the Beyers.
Once you get the amp right, then the choices between headphones becomes the next step, except I can't imagine only owning one set of cans! The finest phones that I ever owned were not my favorite, yet they still had their place. I bought the DT (Dynamic Transducer, for those of you that want to know) 770's from Dneu2011 and they are on their way. I was very tempted to buy both headphones, since one is open back and the other closed, but will take it one step at a time.
Beyer Dynamic is not something that I have ever owned before, and so was surprised at what I heard when they came in. Man, have headphones ever come a long ways. Even the original Koss Pro 4AAA wasn't even close at all to what I hear with these headphones. And they match just right with the Whammy. It won't stop me from experimenting though. Now what you have for sale is the other brother model 880 which as you stated, open back. Probably more people would like this sound preferably to the 770, but there are times for a different sound because of a recording. I was listening to Jon (forgot his last name), but his album Requiem for the Americas can be misleading if you are not using headphones that can produce the bass needed. The 770 was a perfect match for this album in that respect.
Since there are some fellow heaphone guys here (like me) I'd just like to suggest this website from the uk: https://customcans.co.uk
They also have a Youtube channel.
I installed their V2 kit into my DT770 and it made them sound better. Bass is still there and everything is more tamed now.
I'm not in any way connected to them - just a happy customer.
My Sundara still sounds better, it just lacks the bass punch I like, so yes I agree that it depends on the music which headphones are better to use.
Sorry for hijacking a sale thread...
