Well first experiment failed ( baf wadding)

Well I tried adding some wool baff wadding to my ProacDT8’s and it made the sound worse

I took measurements as well and while it smoothed out the freq response, what I heard was a less lively and open sound.

i tried different amounts as well.
i first put some behind the woofers. Not too much. And it deadened the sound
then I took that out and put some on the bottom since it is bare around the port. Was a bit better, but again less lively.
i put different amounts in both behind the woofers and on the bottom.
both very little and more didn’t provide hoped for results.
interesting since the speakers box doesn’t have much damping

good learning experience.

Ok first pic is a reference of how it is empty with only the foam which is what the manufacturer has in it.
second one is with the wool I added.

Now for the bottom pics

first pic is for you guys to see how the manufacturer has a strip of foam diagonally across towards the port
second is with me moving that strip of foam and showing you the wool I put on the bottom. Without the wool is completely bare.

I'm not surprised to learn that ProAc got it right (or as right as they could)!

And I'll wager that the manufacturers also employed some "DIY spirit" in trying to get it right. 😉

P.S. May I suggest you attach your photographs instead so that the thread is easier to navigate?

sure. Is that below where it says ‘ attach files’?

Well…. smoothing out the response ís what you should want actually. ‘Lively and open sound’, to me it occurs you like the resonances inside the enclosure. Nothing wrong with that obviously, and great you are experimenting. My design targets are different, but that is the fun here, everyone is entitled to strive after his or her perfection.
