If you use the radio (wifi or Bluetooth) the ESP32 have really mean high current spikes.
Thanks for the warning. I don't use the radio on the ESP32 at this stage, nor do I anticipate doing so in the foreseeable future. I'll keep it in mind, though.
I've since decided to use an AmyAlice filter which is rated for 48V and 3A max.

The AmyAlice filter is very good from what I have seen of the specs. If you get a 500mA 5V PSU, you should be fine. Typically they are 1A so I don’t see an issue.

The ESP32 draws a bit over 1A in very short spikes when using its radio. Mainly an issue to have properly sized and placed caps

Where are you looking and what amps are you talking about about? I don’t assembled amps on Etsy except preamp modules like the Diamond Buffer or the BTSB or the HyperSET. I am out of stock on the TPA3255. If we have 10 people who are interested in getting an amp I can do another GB.
