Jason> I usually selected daily update for threads I've started. Sometimes weekly for lower priority threads, usually something I'm curious about and just want to know if there has been recent activity. This immediate update is just plain annoying and filling my inbox.
It'd be nice to be able to turn off the logo icons before each post on the forum home page. I find them distracting and unnecessary, tho I understand some may like them.
yes. or the letter icons for those that don't have custom avatars.Do you mean the avatar of the poster, or something else?
On the number of links in signatures - Did you consider the effect on the information sharing and signups to GBs on the forum? I have at least found it very useful when those that are running several GBs have all the links in their signature to quickly find updated GB information when reading various threads (E.g. Salas folded phono and the like). For me it would be both less intuitive and more of a hassle to go through the about me page to find the links to GBs/updated information. I second the suggestion to limit length rather than links. As to links in signatures. Yes, this has been a change, and we didn't really make it to try and make more money, it was more that signatures with lots of links adds a lot of fluff in between posts that every single person reading the thread has to wade through.
If everyone had really long signatures it would significantly detract from the experience of reading threads.
Considering this, and knowing that for some of our members signatures in threads are really important to them, we implemented a pay-as-you-go system where if links in your signature is really important to you, important enough for it to really matter, it's likely that you love the site enough to be happy to support its operations.
So in my mind, this is an excellent win/win for both the membership and the site. There is going to be a lot less long signatures getting in the way of people enjoying reading posts, but for those few members for whom signatures are really important, they can still get them, and they can have links in them if they want.
I'd recommend that for a member who has a lot of links, the polite thing for them to do would put all those links in their "about me" page and then have one link in their "about me" page in their signature. That way members who are interested in that member's projects will have an easy way to check out all that member's projects and links, but thousands of people won't have to wade through a long signature each and every time they see that member's posts.

Hi Again. As far as I can tell, I am already at the highest level, so I cannot go higher.
Also, it seems very wrong to me that money is required for linking to other threads and projects here on diyAudio.
[Aside: Members can link freely to other projects and threads within posts - there's no serious limit on that and it is not linked to financial contributions. Signatures can get long and clutter the feed, especially if the same person has relied frequently in the same thread it can waste a lot of space and as a reader it is tedious seeing the same stuff over and over again (for me, once I have seen a link and visited I don't want to see it over again). ]
We are trying to strike a balance between allowing members to have unique signatures and not creating too much clutter. You may disagree with the approach but we are doing our best, and there will always be different opinions, such is life.
We are in the process of tweaking the settings for lifetime members to increase the number of links - you should see something on that soon if you are a lifetime member (I believe you are). Having said that - I also see many forums where members have overly long signatures and a spammy number of links (that I for one will rarely click, but that's just me).
And I'm going to come right out and say it "money is required". It certainly is required - the costs of running and hosting this forum are substantial. We charge nothing for forum content. Nothing. The only things we charge for are perks like signature extensions etc. All things considered that seems reasonable to me. And when we do that we turn off ads too so it's not like the forum is raking in millions from signatures either.
I know that the forum changes have rattled some folks and that we haven't gotten everything bang on perfect on day one. We are still working on it (heck, I'm meant to be on holiday but here I am). And hopefully soon we will be debating the relative merits of different power supply topologies and get back to the days when the forum is just a means to discover and discuss projects, rather than the aesthetics of the colour purple 🙂. TBH if we laughed the old forum now the complaints would also be substantial but people were happy enough to use it because the content and the members are great.
Have a great end of year, however you celebrate that, and keep an eye out for a notice re signatures for lifetime members.
(Also - thanks for being one - it is much appreciated).

Actually the important thing is readability, not fluff. The length of the signature is something else than the number of links. I was happy with my one-line signature, but I used to have four or five links in there. Technically speaking, every letter could be a different link. So even a very short signature can have many links. If you want to reduce the clutter related to long signatures, then limit the length of the signature (as it was with the old system). Limiting the number of links in the signature will not do anything to reduce the fluff.
Elements with low visual hierarchy do not harm readability as much as elements with high visual hierarchy. Small (size), low contrast (weight), low saturation (color) elements won't get in the way of your eyes as you scan down the page. Because we don't read a page we scan.
Links are, on purpose, higher in VH than regular text. They are on purpose usually bolder and more saturated or colored so they jump out at you. So yes, more links (unless they are styled otherwise) might get in the way more than a few lines of skinny grey text.
One way to get around that might be to simply not give links in sigs an elevated VH and keep them feint and grey like the rest of the sig. Ultimately, we'll decide to do what we think is going to be the best result for the community.
This is thread is titled "Feedback wanted", and it is wanted and it is being listened to and we will make changes based on measured consideration of all the feedback provided, including yours Mattias. Thank you for it.
It should 303 to /index.php?whats-new/latest-activity, which should be an activity stream for all the users you follow. Here that also 301s to /community/aud-feeds.
Interesting, that looks like a custom feed set up by our development partners. I'll look into it, and have created an issue for this here: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/news-feed-redirecting-to-wrong-feed-destination.380832/
I have created an issue thread to discuss this behavior in detail. Feel free to post more details in there about how you think it should work or work better, and what's wrong with how it is now.Breakpoints are viewport specific, not device specific. Your current breakpoints are 650, 900, and 1200. You're dropping the right columns at 900, whereas default behavior is to reduce their font size at 900, and drop them at 650. Additionally on /community you're dropping the right columns at 1200 where it should be 900 by default with sidebar on, and 650 with sidebar off.
I was iPhone 11 Pro Max when I reported the issue, and am now 13 Pro. AFAIK, of the most popular phones, only the iPhone 12 and 13 Pro Max have a landscape viewport width larger than 900, at 926.

Definitely. Issue tracked here: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/duplicate-thread-titles.380835/

As mentioned previously, this will be given attention when we do an aesthetic review in the near future (after Christmas). I would like to see a more minimalist Discourse-style front page, personally. There were several key reasons we didn't migrate to Discourse instead of XenForo, but Discourse's clean looking front page was not one of Discourse's negatives, IMHO. And it's all opinions. It'd be nice to be able to turn off the logo icons before each post on the forum home page. I find them distracting and unnecessary, tho I understand some may like them.
The VH impact of all the graphical elements was a topic of much contention during the build, I assure you. But we had to draw a line in the sand and get on with migration before the aesthetics were anywhere near where I would like them to have been.
I have tried an infinite number of times to open the many links to the 'DIYaudio Store'.
None have allowed access, rather they have come up with a security warning without a voluntary bypass.
Browsers: Safari 11.12 and Opera Version:82.0.4227.33 (x86_64) both on Mac OS 10.11.6

Maybe I misunderstood, I thought that Jason wanted us to post in the "New Issues Platform" thread. Well I posted there (twice) and have had no action. I thought it was an important topic about how the dates of posts look like. The posts have no year, no month, no day no.
I do not like looking at a post that says: posted on Sunday at 3:30, it looses it's reference. How would one save posts in chronological order without a year/month/day reference?
Please have a look at this and see what you think.
Note: I show a screen shot of this in the New Issues thread.

Can you post a screenshot and the exact URL you are trying to go to and where you found it. I don't have a problem.I have tried an infinite number of times to open the many links to the 'DIYaudio Store'.

That's the right place to post specific issues, and every issue posted there will eventually get looked at.Maybe I misunderstood, I thought that Jason wanted us to post in the "New Issues Platform" thread. Some things might take days or weeks.
The development team is now on Christmas holiday for two weeks.
But don't worry, that forum is the canonical source for issues to be tracked. From there issues are then brought into diyAudio's own internal project management system, and from there they are being feed out to the developers project management system. It's all being handled methodically, so if you have posted your issue you're good.
Are any mods monitoring the reporting function, I've reported 2 spam accounts and they're still active 4 hours later. One of which has just updated their profile.
btw, I just reported another one.
At least the spammers are being helpful by providing a Bio in the "About" section of their accounts.

Yes Indiglo. Don't take the lack of direct feedback as a sign that we aren't. We are also in the process of considering the impact of the kind of spam you're showing.
At the same time we are working, quite thoroughy to ensure spam is kept out of threads.

Others may have written about it, but a lot of links refer to stuff that are now in renamed librarys......i think. Many does not work correctly.
Maybe just me, but old forum was more logic and had a better look and colours.

How does one send a PM to another member these days?
I have searched and searched to no avail.
Assistance with this matter would be much appreciated
Thanks
