Anyone built one of these? Or looked at the circuit? All I have is the layout dwg, as I want to build a Marshall 1974 18W clone. I see a Marshall EL84 and PI circuit faithfully copied, but the preamp is from a Fender 5F6-A Bassman (same TMB tone stack and cathode follower). I want my amp to have the "Marshall" sound, to compare with the Champ, Deluxe and Bassman clones I have already built. So what is the "Marshall" sound? The EL84s? The preamp biasing? The PI taking inputs from separate channels? I know the 1974 18 watter has its own sound, not like the bigger Marshalls, but I want a faithful reproduction if possible. I won't be using the Weber design, it is too compromised, taking from both designs. but wanted to see what you DIY-ers thought. Thanks!

The output valves in a Marshall are normally run quite cold, that gives the lumpy Marshall sound. Have a look at the circuit http://el34world.com/charts/Schematics/files/marshall/Marshall_marshall_18watt_schem.pdf
I would go for the Vox AC15/AC30 if I were making a clone. All parts are available, transformers etc.
