We need help with project to add ins/outs to PCs

There is a project afoot in another online forum, in which a group of people are trying to create the hardware needed to replace a traditional pre-/pro- with a personal computer. The necessary programming isn't nearly as much of a problem as the hardware aspects. We could use a couple of bright, knowledgeable people from this board to help with this pioneering work:
