Ways to make a cheap computer sub less boomy?

Just got an Altec Lansing ACS48 at a very cheap price. Low bass but very boomy and inaccurate, and its irritating the hell out of me.
Any ideas on how to sharpen the bass output?

STUFF IT,

With poly pillow fill or fiberglas stuffing, or maybe even open cell foam rubber. If the enclosure tends to vibrate you will need to stick something like DYNAMAT to the insides of the enclosure

Does putting weights on the sub work?

But why don't you give it a try, and hear for yourself?
