Thanks! I was wondering how audible that was. Usually dips don’t bother me. Not nearly as much as peaks!Difference in top end is due to different mic position. First one I measured in between the drivers at approx 1 inch. Second one directly in front of CHN-50 at same distance. So in first measurement it has a slight off-axis response for top end. In hindsight could have just measured in front of CHN-50 due to lowish crossover.
The notch is not really audible to me, just a few db down (this is 1/24 smoothing btw). Suspect this is due to transition to resonance like most FR drivers have.
I thought the different frequency responses were from different microphones or different measurements. Thanks for the confirmation. Sometimes I really like the sound of fullrange loudspeakers then I move out of the sweet spot and all detail is gone. Does the CHN-250 have a smooth transition or does everyone sit on the same seat on the couch?
Sorry for all the questions, so many speakers so little time.
CHN-50 is basically the Sota 5 we used as a mid-tweet in the commercial MA-Sota gear, with a few changes (different basket etc.) It's got quite decent polars for a nominal 3in; 16mm coil & direct-bonded cap, relatively flat cone profile & inverse roll surround so there's less disruption / diffraction from the periphery. That was one of the main objects for the (now defunct) commercial speakers -usability. You could plonk them down more or less anywhere in a room and get quite usable sound. So they needed a reasonable power-response.
