Come in on the tail end of this, but I had a similar experience lately when testing Windows 7, then re-installing XP Pro, all 64 bit, using the Soundblaster Live external USB at 24bit and 96KHz. When going back to XP for some comparative testing the system sound gritty and harsh. back to Win 7 and all became very sweet, more so than usual. I put it all down to drivers or perhaps internal timing issues - I don't know really but it's better than ever now!
Listened through ML Aerius, Technics SE-A3 and Angstrom pre-amp on co-ax via SPDIF.

Thanks for the info. Having RC1 around I tried it on a pc. Unfortunately, results were much the same. The Nero 8 wav sounds magnificent BTW.
