Hello Jack,

While the TH4001 horn possess many qualities, it is an old design based on a Smith horn at the mouth of which is adapted a curved mouth ( which is a short horn belonging to the hyperbolic family).

I don't find it so good sounding and i am not alone. (I am probably too much sensible to the audible effects of diffraction, inner reflections, etc)

The impulse responses of the TH4001 (which one equips TAD monitors like the TAD2402) as you can see here in the 2 links:

both show a delayed pulse of quite large intensity arriving 0.4ms after the first arrival.

That's probably the origin of the lack of quality myself and others can hear with the TH4001.
