Wavecor SW223BD - for dipole (chuffing?)

Well, this would be two per side in a tube / U-frame / cardoid and for a small room. Someone on a local forum even built one with a single 18W Revelator and says it is sufficient.

But back to my question: does anyone have experience if there is air noise from the motor?

The low Qts will eventually help a little.
The declining response towards fs only due to Qts should be ~(-)10dB alone.
That could eventually limit the movement of the cones around fs at least a little.

You could use the calculator from Linkwitz for max SPL (which is not the same what you want but shows (SPL-, xmax-) limits of the design):
SPLmax

Don´t know what chuffing means but my open baffles (single 12", 830669) make some noise when I do frequency sweeps. I use a highpass now (very steep at 35Hz) to avoid it.
If you are going active I´d suggest you do something similar.

2x8" per side could be fine. If you don´t already have the drivers I´ll choose other drivers though.
I´d go for ones with more cone area (2x10" per side at least), higher Qts>=0.5 and less expensive!

If you want to experiment, the Visaton WS25E is no slouch in an OB setup. (2 per side min. and high pass @30Hz recommended)
