Want to move from MDF to real wood, any suggestions?

I dunno why you guys think hardwoods don't work. Obviously, the rules of joinery and proper sealing have not been followed. All my designs are finished in 19mm thick hardwoods, and not one failure yet.

Of course hardwoods work, you can make a speaker out of anything you wish. I could make a speaker out of elephant dung, that sound just as good as an MDF speaker (if I was experienced in dungworking, but i'm not 🙁).

Speakers made out of elephant dung - hope you live out in the country somewhere!!

"Yeh how much reinforcing did you use??"

There is a separate internal carcase of marine ply or MDF, depending on model, all fully braced with at least 3 horizontal full circumference braces.

"How thick is the wood??"

18 - 20mm

"Are they made for sound Q or db??"

They are made purely for music. Voiced to have the lucidity of Sonus Faber, but the tight and fast bass of Naim.

"How much did the wood cost??"

Lots. I tend to buy in bulk so I don't know what each loudspeaker pair cost in terms of wood. The drivers are considerbly more expensive.

"Are they a set??"

Yes, they are a family of loudspeaker pairs. More will be added over time.

I think a common denominator in this thread is that yes, pure or "real" wood or other materials can be used for a cabinet EXTERIOR, but that virtually all builders use internal bracing, damping, and at least one other internal "carcass" of (almost universally) MDF, plywood, etc. to deal with resonances.

I think the person who started this thread may have caused a little confusion when he referred to "real wood" without specifying if this was going to be the ONLY material he would build his cabinets out of.

"...I see scanspeaks and hiquphons... "

Not to mention several Seas (CA15RLY and CA18RLY) as well ...

Agreed. I can't see how a box can be built from solid timber without compromising joint security where end-grain meets face grain. Even Sonus Faber uses a separate inner carcass to provide dimensional stability and a measure of self damping.

Aren't the advantages of a coax driver negated by putting it in a upward firing enclosure. I'm thinking a lot of the sounds, esspecially the highs from the tweeter bounce off the ceiling and/or walls before they hit your ears anyway. So the advantage of having one point source from the coax is taken away. Am I wrong?

Beautiful Sub - would look great in black (marble, granite, etc.) What kind of drivers do you use?

thank you sdclc126! I like it too 🙂 I being made it for order and I have some experience.... it's realy looks like work of art and beautify appartment..
well, but unfortunately, not any sort of marble is convenient for acoustic system. and not anyone color.
it my marble maker opinion and mine either.
I wouldn't representing black sub for overwhelming majority interiors.
ok. it's just aesthetics issue.

I can use any driver, which customer wish.
but my favorite -
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

sorry Jimmy154. I don't understood your expression.
excuse my English.
