Want to build the ultimate sub for $1,000

Hello, I would like to build a very musical sub that would do well for ht. My budget is no more than $1,000 U.S. dollars (this must include the amplification). I'm building a house so I don't know what size the room will be when it is done. Size is not an issue. Tight usable sound to around 25hz is. Thank you for your input.
I'm new to this, so a kit of some sort would probably be the best?

Perhaps some H-frame dipole subs (ala Steve Doddsy's "Bob 5" dipole system seen elsewhere on this/his site) or some scaled-down El-Pipe-O sonotube subs (Nelson Pass DIY site) might be the ticket? Haven't yet built either myself but am in the active planning and preparation stages to do both. Take a look at Siegfried Linkwitz's site, too (for H-frame and W-frame subs)--very inspiring! Good luck and I hope this is guiding you in the right direction. Jeff

My bad, I'm posting links that would take you over budget.

The Everest looks awesome.

Any design with a single Tumult is pretty mean also,
no need for two. Such as;

Kilimanjaro
1 ea Tumult 15" driver
2.5 cu ft veneered sealed enclosure (19.5" on all sides)
1000 watt class 'D' plate amplifier
Grill
Black chrome spikes

$1500

You might be able to shave a few hundred $$ if you DIY.
$500 for woofer, $550 for 1kw amp, plus misc. supplies
and your own labor.

In my opinion, that kilimanjaro is about the utlimate sub for me (currently I use 2 Peerless XLS12's and 4 XLS10 passive's, but I would trade it for the kilimanjaro haha)

Bad about this: if you have one, you want a second one, so the other one can have the unit reversed (magnet outside), because the back of the speaker is very beautiful!

Maybe you save a little more money, and go for this design?

Grtz, Joris

P.S. I don't sell them or anything, but I like the Tumult very much as you can see)

Four AV15s in an Infinite Baffle with a $300 1200 watt Pro Amp. That might stretch your budget a little bit (if you include shipping and other materials like wire, connectors, and wood) so an alternative is a $128 PE 250 watt plate amp.

(Coincidentally, the former happens to be exactly what I am in the middle of building. The four AV15s and a CrownXLS602 are sitting in my HT and the Box/Manifold is 75% done in my basement. ETA ~ 10 days - just enough time to increase my home owner's insurance.)

If you are building a house, you could drop a LAB into the floor in the corner of the room and put some metal grating above the 1mx0.5m opening. Should be plenty sub-bass for any room. How about extending the horn's flare with some architechture? A simple gainclone should be ample power for most applications ;-) though with some eq. a more powerful amp could be added later.
