Hey all, not much info on here about wall mounted open baffle speakers so I figure now could be a good opportunity to put my styrofoam cabinet making skills to good use. First though I should include a bit of info on the goals of this project. My uncle-in-law owns a bar here in nebraska, and he gets quite a few customers from all over the place because of how well he's run the place, sometimes more than 100 people packed in there at a time, but one problem he's always had is the sound system, he's constantly been burning up amps and speakers and volume controls, so I offered to help him put together something that works and lasts. I considered the open baffle design as he mentioned "some people can hear the music great with my old setup, but some places just seemed really muted and muffled," so i figured room modes were to blame, and a big benefit of dipole/OB speakers is that they don't interact with room modes as much as monopoles. working out some design constraints with him, I came up with the idea of a small wall mounted open baffle design, the bottom edge of the baffle would be in contact with the wall, angling the driver down towards the listening area while angled wings would leave only the top part of the speaker completely open. I pieced together a (very) rough prototype with styrofoam to see what kind of sound could be made with a wall mounted ob and the sound was actually very strong and clear compared to any other design I've used that particular driver with (a small fullrange recycled from an old sony stereo) something else I noticed with the speaker is that the sound seems to travel further than with any other speaker design that I've tried at that listening level, even leaving the room the sound carries very well so I'm thinking this might work pretty good to provide a good spacious sound for filling the bar. As soon as I get my camera working I'll upload some pics.

Well, I've taken the plunge and attempted my own version of a wall mounted open baffle speaker, basically there are two boards straight up and down, ~45 degrees apart from each other and connected at the "peak" to each other and connected at the "base" to the wall. I took a slice of those boards about 30-45 degrees upward and added a triangular baffle that holds a visaton fr13-4. Overall, they sounded really nice, my design prevents any possibilities of parallel sides to reduce or even eliminate resonance in the speaker, and my friend who owns a bar in my hometown actually wanted them installed in her bar. If anyone visits the sundowner in Lynch Nebraska you might be able to see them in action, until then I'll try to find my camera to upload pics so the rest of the audio world can check them out.
