Ok, I've been reading the forums for a bit and I keep coming across this WAF. After much application of science and physics I have come up with a formula that explains the correlation between WAF and RF. As RF goes up WAF decreases, its as simple as that.
So for all you guys that have high WAF factor with your speaker designs, grow some bigger raisins!

Now that's funny. I have to say I agree, to an extent. Stating that a speaker design has to fit within WAF parameters deserves consideration. Obviously, this has to come into account with larger designs. I've seen folks that don't have this as an issue jam huge horn systems into tiny rooms. I suppose someone has to draw the line.
But when someone is relegated to trying to get full range sound out of a single 3" driver in a tiny box...raisins.

Oooh, don't get me started on this subject! I built or helped build cabs up to 30 ft^3 freestanding and up to 300 ft^3 false wall cabs for various folks and never had any WAF issues other than to try to blend them in somewhat, which could be done with paint and/or veneer and/or wallpaper combined with a complementary colored grill made from expanded double-knit, which comes in myriad colors.
When I finally got on the 'net and found several audio lists in the mid '90s, there was all this concern over SAF, WAF, and not wanting to sound too technically ignorant since there were a lot of really knowledgeable folks posting that didn't seem too interested in educating newbies, I began re-educating myself on all things audio design to try and figure out what I'd missed.
Of course there was nothing, so I finally asked someone privately and couldn't believe what it meant! I guess the various ladies were just grateful to have us tinkering around the house indulging in our various hobbies rather than out partying (and all that implies) like so many of the guys we knew, so accepted the big speakers, motorcycles, etc., though before I got the garage built, one did take a bit of an issue with me using the living room to do some major repair on the cycle and cleaning parts in the sink to get it ready for Daytona BikeWeek. At least I cleaned up after each time. Oh well, life's a %$#@!, then you marry one. 😉

You're right, cancer took her ~ 8yrs ago, but it wouldn't have mattered, she would happily tell you she was the Queen of &^%$#@!. Hey! She had to be to put up with me.

No biggie, life happens. I would have made the same 'shoot from the hip' type comeback. Actually I lost two to cancer, as well as one long time GF. All dead before 40 even though they had enviable health till they were blind-sided.

Well, I guess I deserved that for chirping away when I'm a newbie and don't know what's what. I was a little annoyed on first reading the posts but now on re-reading I can see where you guys are coming from. It was my always intention to build a compact 5.1 HT sub/sat system, not a full range stereo pair, and maybe that belongs up and over on "Loudspeakers" and not on "Full Range". I came here because it was where all the good info was on TLs.
But, you have definitely inspired me for the second phase of my first project. I'm going even smaller and more shriveled, with a single 2" TB speaker in an even smaller cabinet, still for crossover at 90Hz. They will be the surround sounds for my front projection HT, all of which, when not in use, hides - dare I say it - in the closet. That just works better in my NYC apartment. I'll call them the "NanoRaisins" and will post some pix for you to enjoy.
