How can I dissassemble the clamp transport to get to the laser to clean it? as I'm experiancing problems with the player jumping and endlessly seeking for tracks.
I've owned the vrds 10, for several years without any troubles. And would consider getting another player. (as I've owned it for so long) if I could find one that matches the vrds's 'sound and power' abilities.
It might be another problem?
PLEASE HELP... I really like it and would hate to get rid of it...

Hi,
You cannot get to the laser, as it is integrated in the pickup unit
You can clean the lens, never use alcohol or other, just air
Remove the clamp using 4 screws. Watch out for any spacers which might have been used, between clamp and mounting stud
Put away clamp and look straight into the lens 🙂

Hi, and thanks for the advice. Only trouble I had was not pulling hard enough to seperate the 'Clamping mec' But eventually worked it out.
Unfortunatly this has not solved my problems of the cd 'jumping'
(It has got better tho, I managed to listen to, nearly a whole cd after b4 it started playing up again) lol.
It also has difficulty finding a track.
ie.
'press for track 7, (or any other track) And it doesn't find it, n keeps searching'

Have you written off the machine?
If you have written off the laser assembly ( or maybe not ) , you can try a wet clean . Assuming you ruin it , you will only have to replace the laser assembly.
Note - lasers are not replaced , the whole laser assembly with lens is replaced. You can't set up and align a laser ( you probably can't even put in a new one!) at home or possibly workshop. The full assembly doesn't need any alignment at all. It comes all set up.
Get the laser assembly for the mechanism you have. For example the Philips CDM12.1 mechanism has only one laser assembly that it can use. So you can't get a wrong assembly if you know what the transport mechanism is called.
If I am wrong (someone) please correct me.
I replaced the laser assembly on my Marantz CD player . The replacement laser assembly ( it comes with the plastic support and guide rails ) is just a drop in replacement and is numbered after the mechanism on to which it fits. Only the motor needed wires to be soldered . The other was a plug in connector and rubber shock mounting ( already on the old mechanism).
To wet clean the lens. Get "pure Isopropyl alcohol" or "isopropyl cleaning solution" which would be a diluted version .
Tear off a piece of tissue or toilet paper about an inch wide and roll it up tight. You will get a rough edge at the torn off end. Apply a little alcohol to the tip ( just to get it moist ) and rub the lens with a circular motion. Don't apply too much force as the lens is fitted to a floppy suspension. Do this two or three times with a fresh piece of tissue. Give a final clean with dry tissue and check to see that no fibers are left on the lens. Beyond this you can't really clean the lens any more. If it still doesn't work the laser is probably on its way out.
Check out the forum. There were some pictures of a CDM12.1 assembly somewhere.
For all these operations , do everything gently and take your time!

Unintelligent ?
IMHO there is no dumb or Unintelligent person on this planet.
It's just that some people focus their 'intelligence' in areas that the general public doesn't seem to be interested in.
So each one has his own area of competence , if it happens to be way off the beaten track and has restricted "bandwidth", they get called 'unintelligent' or whatever.
