Voxativ 'New acoustica'

Frequency Response
20 - 20.000 Hz

Efficiency
96dB (3 kHz) 1W / 1m*

Let's assume the frequency response specification follows the generally used convention to indicate -3 dB points. Let's also assume the frequency response is flat (at least sort of), so the efficiency spec would hold for the entire frequency range (not just 3 kHz). In other words, the efficiency would be down at 93 dB/W/m at 20 Hz. Basic physics would require a much large speaker to achieve that. In other words: either the frequency response is far from flat, or Voxativ are lying about the specs.

I'm mainly fond of Mark Audio, but Jordan, Tang band, Fostex and EAD also make good drivers in my book (and there are more). On the bigger models there is only one i really like and that is the rather cheap Fane 12-250TC pa driver (used on low power in a big cabinet). All making less claims, but back it up with data that supports their claims and their data is consistant. I myself use Mark Audio Alpair 10.3 and CHN110 drivers for my own personal sets now. Those drivers are also reasonable priced, and extensive discussed here (with free designs that work availeble).

Wizzer cones have their advantages and disadvantages. Sometimes they work well (some fostex and TB models show that), sometimes they mess up the response and imaging. But the best drivers i know (Mark Audio) don't need those to give treble, they use an engineered shallow cone for that.

Hi Michael,

Oh yes, -3dB 20-20000Hz at 96dB/2,8V/1m would be very cool...

The German magazine Audio has tested some Voxativ products including some sort of measurements. Sorry I don´t have the exact source, but some search should turn them up as .pdf.
Even if they liked what they here, be prepared for some sort of reality shock should you believe such "technical data" (oh, of course I now you personally don´t believe them, no offense intended...) not only from Voxativ, but from others, too. And then it´s just the beginning, other models are claimed to be well above 100dB...

All the best
