VOXATIV Ampeggio

Just listened to the Voxativ Ampeggio at 'TheShow' in Newport Beach. It was the most musically involving and musically "correct" loudspeaker I have ever heard. Just flat out amazing! The drivers and speaker enclosures are designed by an ex Daimler Benz engineer who also just happens to be a woman..

I attended a hifi show with all of the big names nere TAD, Wilson and all that. Some really impressive some not so. But there was one that made me come back again and again just to listen to the music. That was Voxativ.

I have cringed in front of Lowthers before, this was a totaly different kettle of fish, no red herring here! The Voxativ has none of that beamy shouty highrange that most fullrange drivers has.

Down the hall there were som other hornloaded 8" fullrange drivers, very well made integrated amps with DSP, they still had problems with the room accoustics, they claimed, despite a lot of basstraps and other treatments. So they sounded decent but not much more.
In a very similar room with far less accoustic treatment, playing a a basshorn of very similar size to that other brand, the Voxative was churning out music.

They are doing something special, I am sure that they also know how to measure that something. A german diesel engineer would not have it another way. This is a milestone and a classic.:Olympic:

The Voxativ drivers are much higher costing units vs the Fostex ones that us DIYers buy - it would be unfair to put them in the same bracket. 🙂

But sonically if we take Fostex as a reference, or even Lowther - reviewers and now fellow forum members are all saying that the Voxativ speakers/drivers sound much better. Kudos to Voxativ!

Talaerts, where in Sinagpore can these speakers be auditioned? Btw, found anything interesting in Japan?

Can't argue with that. They're usually better at it than we are. Or at least, they seem to pick up on any problems quicker.

I've managed to dig out some measures of the AC-X field coil from Klang und Ton. Sorry about the lousy resolution; I did the scan a while back for speed & never did get chance to do a better one. I think these were done under 12v; my German is (very) rusty. Not the same unit as that used in the Ampeggio AFAIK, but there will probably be some similarities in the general response trend.

Yep, and why they've voiced all my designs since my mom commented on a scaled horn I did at age 12.

FYI, if you still have that old, relatively hi res RCA 'FR' response I sent you, scaling it to the much smoothed Voxativ one might prove enlightening.

VOXATIV AC - 3B

Drive Unit with Leather Suspensions

The Voxativ AC-3B is the logical extension of our successful model AC-2.8
Changes were mainly done to the suspension. The magnetic system is stronger once again.

The suspension material is now a very fine goat leather. This has as a natural substance in comparison to foam or rubber and much better acoustic properties. It reduces the internal friction considerably so that the saved energy is now fully transformed in cone movement and impulse reproduction.

In the listening test you will immediately notice the difference: Much more details. Things are present that were previously swallowed. More purity and again a stronger bass response. The whole music is submitted with an almost royal softness which so far has never been heard.

Again a magnetic system is used, were the voice coil is underhung and always working in the homogeneous magnetic field. A new, stronger Neodymium magnet is used whose reserves are never exhausted. The magnetic power is extremely high.

This loudspeaker is one of the best full-range horn drivers ever build.

You can discover more about the AC-3B, and experience it for yourself, in our Berlin studio.

It's enough just to look at this driver to know it's something special🙂 100% my taste, but also 100% I can't aford it lol 😀

zman01,

I heard them in the Adelphi in Singapore. They were very, very nice. I must say however that the Avant Garde speakers of roughly the same (ultra expensive) price range which I heard 10 minutes later in another shop were even better.

Indeed, it is perhaps not fair to compare with Fostex, I just wanted to say that the difference is staggering, it is not a small difference.

Didn't have time yet to return to the hifi / diy shops here in tokyo. currently mainly interested in tube amp kits, if I can find a affordable one with multiple mains voltages. otherwise perhaps I'll bring the FF85WK and its ready made enclosure (still small and light in the luggage), for a bedroom system with an airport express as the source.

The big difference though is that the Voxativ is a point source that can be listened to up close. You need a very large room with a lot of distance between the listener and the Avantgarde for the drivers to align in time..
