Vox AC15 project

hello everybody, thanks for your awnsers and suggestions.

I finally make my mind this week end, i had a long brain storming with my partner on this project ( he's teacher in a electronic-mechanic college -20yo studs- and since he was a little boy he had unbuilt-modified-rebuild every electronic toys he got in his hands; he already build 3 audio solide state amp and is quite interrested in my amp project, got the material and the tehnic !!)

So we decided to go on the Vox AC15HTVH1 head !! Basically there's 2 channel preamp, a EF86 one with bright, bass shift and pentode-triode mode, and a top boost channel, followed by 2x EL84 and a EZ81 rectifier. In 15W !!

SO, Razorric, why 15W only ? : I play late at night (1-2 am), with wife, child and neighbor sleeping... I live a house but in a small town, not a forest (that's why i would like a headphone output too). When it's not home, it's in a small appartment of a guitar leader friend, or sometimes in bars or small concert room... if i do Wembley Stadium one day i'll have my AC30 Wall too !!
Other reason, i want to have a great speaker, celestion blue alnico or WGS black&blue, both in 15W, and no monney enough yet to buy 2. i though about making a 30W amp with pentode triode, make 1 cab in 15w and another latter, but my fear is that even in triode it would maybe go over 15w and break the speaker !?!

does it seems to be good reasons for you ?

Sreten, yes, we've seen some mistakes on the basic shem i posted last time. So we will work on this base http://www.el34world.com/charts/Schematics/files/Vox/Vox_AC15HTVH1_handwired.pdf. Looks to be the original factory shematic, no? I will certainly not do the top boost channel, i enjoy more the EF86 sound and maybe this will be a bit easier to build, not so much cheapest but maybe easier to put in a not too big box a bit like the night train.

i'll give up the reverbe too, thanks Chrispenycat for your advice but i'm not shure i'll have enough space to let some for the future, that'll be for another project if this one work...

i got some question about the transfrmers i need to buy. i've seen this output transf model, Tube-Town Online-Store - Hammond 1750Y VOX Übertrager AC15 ha1750y, for the secondary, 8ohm is ok, ill make do, but will the 6200ohm/ct be ok or do i need another reference ?
same for the choke, seems that i need a 8H one, but what model ?
same for the power transf, with this ref is it ok? Tube-Town Online-Store - Hammond 290PX VOX Power AC15 ha290px...

and the mercury set is too expensive...

thank you all for your awnsers !!

I did mean why not go under 15watt? say 5 watt, much easier, or you can put triode/pentode mode on the EL84s to bring the power down to about 7/8 watts. as for the speakers, a 15 watt amp doesnt need a 15watt speaker, any speaker rated >15watts will work. (dont forget your not going to be pushing the whole 15watts through it all the time anyway). 15 watts is plenty for gigging with a drummer, but im not sure how far clean tones will go.

hy, maybe 5w would be not always enough. you'r right for the pentode triode mode, that's on the model i've choosen (AC15HTVH1) and i'll certainly keep the 15w only for gigging, not at home. For the speaker, i know that i can use a upper value for it but it seems that the blue alnico from celestion are really good, and only exist in 15W...
You re also right for how clean will be the sound at max level, but i don't think i'll go to that edge frequently...and a bit of crunch is not bad to my ears.

those one would ok?

both of those transformers look fine, as for the choke, 8H isnt a neccessity its just better filtering. depending on the filter cap you use after the choke, a 3H choke would also be fine, maybe add a few uF to the cap after the choke. hammond also do chokes, other than that im not sure.

I know what you mean about the mercury set, ive heard that they dont actually make too much of a difference either...
