So I have a volume pot just before the output in a stompbox I built (EA Tremolo clone) which isn't behaving properly. It is an audio taper pot (labeled A100k) but the volume taper isn't smooth. In fact, it sounds exactly like a linear pot sounds when wired as a volume pot.
Anyone have an explanation for this? The manufacturer is definitely using the American labeling conventions. It is definitely supposed to be an audio taper pot. After measuring the resistance, it seems to be a non-linear taper, although I am not 100% confident in my measurements.
Here is the schematic I used: http://byocelectronics.com/treminstructions.pdf (page 25).
By the way I have it wired backwards. I was anxious to finish it, so I didn't check the orientation. This shouldn't make a difference for the sweep (other than the obvious fact that the sweep is reversed), am I right?

Sounds like that is the problem right there!
I was in a hurry to start my new car, I guess I put gasoline in the crank case and oil in the gas tank ... is that a problem?
😉
😉
Think about it: a 10% audio taper pot correctly wired, when in the middle position, is a 1:10 voltage divider, so you get 20dB attenuation; reverse-wired, it's a 9:10 voltage divider, so you get 0.9dB attenuation. No wonder it isn't behaving properly.

Yup, I just rewired it, and the sweep is as it should be. Thanks guys, I feel kind of dumb haha.Sounds like that is the problem right there!
