Volume control

I'm in the process of designing a remote controlled preamp and after some extensive searching on this great forum i found one proposed by Maik Herzog.
For more info see:

I thought this was an interesting idea. I would like to control the volume control with a microcontroller. To make this volume control disaster proof (i am going to write the code for the microcontroller myself 🙂) I thought it would be a wise idea to have one of the voltage dividers 'switched on' and therefor I toyed a little bit with spice and created the thing in the attachement.

The blue section is what is originally proposed by Maik Herzog, the red section is what I added and the yellow section is the 'switching voltage'. In spice it seems to work. Since i am an electronic noob, i would like to ask can this be done any simpler / better/ etc.

Thanks

Emiel

I want to use this volume control in a 6 way preamp, so i thought this would be the most convenient route to go. I have considered alps potmeters, pga2310, ds1802 btw, but wanted to try this approach in a stereo test setup.

You mean this topic:

I have done some extensive searching for some time now on this topic, to me the approach of Maik Herzog seems worth a try. The only thing i would like to have is that one switches is default on instead of off (this sounds confusing). The reason is simple in case of malfunction of my microcontroller or something else, i don't want to fly through the roof because the volume is wide open 🙄 .

If this approach doesn't work out, i will look for something else. Perhaps the famous Wayne attenuator (hope i spelled it right) is out in the open then?

I hope this doesnot sound inpolite, i am simply looking for improvements/remarks on the schematic i posted. I know about the various other options out there, but thanks for your help anyway.
