Looks like an annular phase plug, so not an HF 104 or HF105.
you're right. I have to sen an appointment to visit my optometrist 😉
but I'm still sure it's s Faital Pro CD. Annular Fraital Pro 1" compression drivers all have bugscreens at exit. they probably removed it or maybe the screen is there and I'm getting blind? 😱 maybe the screen is really there!
Faital Pro HF108 is the man behind the wall. phase plug is orange annular and the frequency response is very linear. oh man we never took Faital Pro serious but it seems they are good at what they do.
sadly there is no image of this CD taken from front view but it's the only Faital Pro model that is 1" and has annular orange-colored phase plug and is very linear deserving to be part of such a good reviewed speaker. a font view picture will solve the issue:

Any guess on what the midrange horn on the Alura is or on the Vittora?
I thought the midrange compression driver was the pricey BMS 4592ND:
BMS 4592ND-MID Neodymium Mid frequency Compression Driver - BMS 4592ND-Middle - BMS 4592ND-MID lightweight neodymium 2 inch mid frequency compression driver. BMS neodymium 4592ND-MID mid frequency compression drivers are available here.
I might be wrong 😕
Anand.

That is a really nice crossover!
I'm a little surprised they used cement resistors for the level setting. Also, that's a complicated network, is it just LP and HP or does it include a mid?
Best,
Erik

I am waiting for a couple BMS 4591C, have BMS 4547ND with an 18sound XT1086 Horn....probably will order a Fc260 horn to change a 50 cm round tractrix
Do youknow wich crossover point Alura has in between 15" and horn??
I have a DIY double 12" Beyma 12G40 bass reflex and would like to cross at lowest point possible, around 300 Hz, since i found that (with BMS 4590) is better not allow the woofers to go higher...your experiences/opinion is greatly appreciated
Regards
Guido

both are the same. a 260hz cf edgar tractrix horn. I think they sell it 300USD/pr. mail them and ask: info [at] logicaudio.ir
this is it:
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
I have a pair of Faital Pro hf108r with sh100 horns and a pair of Faital Pro 15pr400 woofers and am looking at building something similar to the Volti Audio Alura or Rival. Has anyone heard both designs and can describe the pros/cons of each?
Which 2" midrange phenolic diaphragm driver would the volti audio speaker likely to be using? Is there plans to build the FC260 horn available somewhere?
What passive crossover design would work best with this sort of 3-way combo?
Cheers

- Hi Tuyen, As far as the midrange driver it's listed here - just read through the 3 pages.
- There aren't any plans out there for the FC260 Horn that Gregg at Volti Audio is using because it's proprietary....... but it's basically an Edgar Tractrix Horn you can go to this website Volvetretor - ( see links below ) - and get the PDF of the " Edgar Midrange horn " -- which has the basic Tractrix Horn design information.
- Articles – Volvotreter Homepage
- Then if you click on the next link below it is a simple program that will calculate the shape and dimensions of the Midrange horn you need so you can build it... you will need to decide what the cut off frequency you want for the Midrange Horn... you can Find the cut off frequency for the FC260 and use that if that's what you want to use.
- It's also VERY IMPORTANT that you make as smooth translation from the round BMS 4592ND - Midrange driver to the square shape where you attach the Midrange driver to on the Horn - it's called the Horn's throat. Use some wood putty or Bondo putty to make as Smooth transition as you can from the round to square shape.
- Articles – Volvotreter Homepage
--- you should also goggle all the Reviews you can find for Volti Horn speakers and read them carefully to learn more about the design concept. Gregg' horns sound AMAZING, so if you can come close it will be more than worth the effort to learn as much as you can.
- There aren't any plans for the crossover , but if you spend a few days reading up on crossovers, then come ask for help here you will get some good feedback about the best way to learn how to design it.
- You could by an inexpensive Active crossover like a miniDSP or Behringer to try different kinds of crossovers to find with you think sounds and measures the best, then after you find the kind of crossover you like -- first order, second order, or third order... and what crossover frequency you want, then build an passive crossover to match it.... ask for help if you don't understand something. And READ up on other diy horns that have been built by other people here at diyaudio , you can learn a lot.
- Best regards, Dean
PS. if you have any question you can send a PM, I don't know a lot but I am happy to help.

I know Greg uses the 4 ohm version of the 15PR400 and crosses over at 400 to the BMS mid. These are the best speakers I have ever heard!
I'd also love to know. I have BMS 4592ND-8, 15PR400, STH100 horn with HF10AK. Looking to build some kind of Volti clone. What passive crossover design would work best with this sort of 3-way combo?
tried to find some measurements of this brand, and my god
Yeah - I saw those measurements as well.
I believe Greg prefers to "voice speakers with [his] ears", and only partially (minimally) believes in the importance of speaker measurements.
He suggests: "It's very simple, stop looking at the graphs, and use your ears. That's how to really Have Fun!"
I'm a big fan of Greg's woodworking skills - but I can't seem to enjoy anyone of his designs.
I've heard the Volti Audio many times at our local Capital Audio Fest - and, just simply based on personal preference, they rank as one of the lowest value/price speakers. They are "dynamic" - but thats about it.
i see he tries to battle the comment section over at stereophile..
"measurements dont matter" *facepalm*

- Hi Bas Horneman, have you had the chance to spend much time listening the Vittora Horn Speaker?
-I'm also thinking of building some kind of Volti clone , I got to spend two days listening to the Vittora at The 2019 Lone Star Audio Fest, Gregg is a really great guy, I had a lot of fun. - I wish I could remember half of what we talked about - LOL ... I wrote down some of what he told me, but when I got back home I got all wrapped up in a major bummer of medical diagnoses ........ and I lost it - aaugh.......
- I think that the 4592ND - Mid sure is a wonderful speaker driver! -- i guess we all just hear things differently - 🙂
- I'm having a hard time trying to decide what to do about the Bass Horn.. I thought about a scaled up La Scala, but I know that's not what the Vittora's W-Horn is, It's a complete redesign and Gregg said he spent a lot of time trying out different Horn throats for the new design before he found the right design... I wouldn't know where to start if I was trying to modify the Bass horn throat.
- One other option is to make it a straight Bass Horn instead ... I do remember Gregg telling me if I had the room that it would sound better than the W- Bass horn..... I like what Tune Audio does with their Anima Bass Horn , they stood it up and have it firing down towards the floor to save space, and it serves as the attachment place for the Midrange and tweeter Horns.

I listened to a clone of a Volti Audio Rival (ish) speaker for an afternoon. Loved it...just so lifelike and there.
tried to find some measurements of this brand, and my god
Loudness contour.
I've thought about it. But this project is very much on the backburner....About the crossover , have you considered going to an active crossover?
I've messed about with the 15PR400 in a 120l sealed-ish enclosure, works well with my minidsp but I'm at the very early stages with it.
