This one may only drop half that voltage at half the current. I suspect they use a series resistor to get the voltage drop. So would recommend going with the single 5AR4 equivalent rather than this two 5AR4 sub.

Use a small transformer to buck the input AC voltage down.
You get -5% with a 6.3VAC filament transformer, or -10% with a 12.6VAC unit.
I'd go with the -10% option.

The transformer's secondary current rating should be more than the amplifier.

I've tried the buck transformer and it works fine. What I haven't tried is to add a resistor in series with the buck transformer primary. With the right value resistor would the system provide some regulation if the buck voltage drops faster than the main secondary?
