Hi all,
I have a cheapo Yaqin CD2 tube buffer into a tripath amp as a stopgap till my KEL84 amp is ready.
I've changed the valves in it for a pair of 6ZH1P-EV and replaced the input and output coupling caps, but wanted to double check the voltage ratings....
I opted for 100v rated caps as they were readily available and it's well clear of the 50v odd they actually see, but I keep seeing projects where people have used massive 400v-800v rated caps for coupling output.
Is this a safety thing or people striving for better audio quality?
Is it likely that the output caps could ever see the B+ voltage of 145v if the valve were to become faulty?
thanks,
James

50v is just the static conditions.
It will be a few more volts when modulated with audio.
I would use a 250VDC cap for safety.
Yes, and quality of the sound depends of your coupling cap, that you will chose.50v is just the static conditions.

Whit cheap cap sound will be cheap.

Yes, money is the key technical parameter. Not that voltage or current or impedance nonsense.
