Voltage Controlled Signal Amplitude

Thanks everyone,

After looking at the analog switch/mux offerings, I think that might be a much simpler solution to my problem. In fact, if I chose to go the mux route, I would be able to eliminate some of the pins leading to my front panel, but at the cost of having to encode the selection into a digital format to be interpreted by the mux (if I understood the wiki page correctly). I don't think that would be very difficult, so that's likely the path I'll take.

The big factor now is cost, as the ICs for handling analog waveforms with amplitudes around +/-15V seem to be in the >$2 per chip range. However, it would only require one chip to switch between all waveforms, so that might still be most economical.

Right now, I'm looking at these for the various IC options:
[Restrictions: Through-hole, >30V peak-to-peak input voltage (-15V to +15V)]
  • Multiplexer: DG408 - 8 channel mux ($2.64/unit, 7/26/11)
  • Analog Switch: DG442 - Quadruple Analog Switch ($1.25/unit, 7/26/11)
