Still can't locate 2SD998 or 2SB778's. Even Octopart.
All transistors.com doesn't really show much for a substitute. Might have to order from ebay. 😱 Hope they have 6 each that are the same lot.

I know they are not "direct" replacements, but i ve been very successful using TIP35s and 36s with thermal pads.
Ultra - did you have to change any other components in the circuit? I have some 35/36's sitting here
No, these are class B amp circuits, there is no Vbe multiplier.
I pushed them to the limit (and beyond) before giving back them to the customer.
Dont forget to use insulation as the TIPs have metal tab.

Awesome thx. This is the first Volfenhag amp I've worked on. I have some insulators... but have a lot of Kapton tape. I've used it with 35/36's before. Or should I use thicker insulators?

The TIP transistors often require that the bias circuit be modified to prevent thermal avalanche at or near thermal shutdown.
The FJA4213 and FJA4313 are generally drop-in replacements that require no modification.
