i'm wanting to bypass the caps in my crossovers with the vishay 1837 as per Tony Gee's suggestion on Humble Homemade Hifi
however i also see on the market rubycons and orange drops 10nf caps. could they be a safe alternative to the vishay? any one of them actually a better choice? please let me know. cheers.

you could bypass with anything half decent, i tend to use .022uf 1500 PP film caps, but .01, .1 uf would do just as well, polyester film caps in similar values would work pretty much as well as well id guess.
Here's what Douglas Self says in his book Small Signal Audio Design p.55:
"Clearly polyester gives significant distortion, despite its extensive use in audio circuitry of all kinds."
He says polystyrene and polypropylene have no measurable distortion (p.56).
I finally broke down and bought some of the 0.1uF (not 0.01) Vishay MKP1837 (from PartsConnexion $2 each) per Tony Gee's suggestion to use in parallel with the main caps in my crossover (3x 10uF Rifa PHE426 from Apex Jr $3 ea - Tony G rated them "7+"...), but I haven't tried them yet. I don't think I'll take the time to listen for a proper comparison either, as it would take too long to make the swap. I expect to feel better about it though, probably as good as one can feel for an extra $4....

I'm not a friend of bypassing, but try Rel-Cap RTE in small values (1000 - 2200pF).
They clear things up and add only a small amount of warmth in a way I like it.
