Except when it can. This is circumstance dependent and there are in fact a number of successful speakers using twin HF drivers, either as direct radiators or in omni variations, dipoles (Orion, anyone?) etc.
Maybe that why there is such a rising response, to fight the cancellation,.

The Petit Orgue looks like an interesting project to try out. Low sensitivity and two fullrangers in the front, but maybe the front FR driver pair could be replaced by a better single one. Edit: e.g. TC9FD18-08 should fit. Mine would be active anyway, so I would not have to care about EQ or sensitivity differences.
