I had the CHR-70's and they are a great driver (break them in very carefully though -- I didn't).
The Alpair's I've heard have been lovely. Utterly different from Fostex (and I like Fostex) and so they are complementary and really affordable. Lots of bass, lots of treble, not uber-efficient but they go into boxes so easily. You're not struggling to get bass out of them, that's for sure.
This weekend, we will hear the Alpair 12 field-coil versions in a BLH (Affirm Audio) at the Lone Star Audio Fest: Lone Star Audio Fest There will also be Lowthers, all manner of horn systems and other interesting goodies.
Expect a full report!
