Visaton B200 ported box help?

Good evening everyone. I seem to be having trouble getting the right box volume from a program am using? I know Visaton has some box designs but, am looking for a stand mount or a larger book shelf. I know louise from omega loud speakers used two special scan speak vents 2 per box on the back side. Can someone help me out? Maybe am not seeing or doing something right? Thanks Jeff

Greets!

This driver has a very weak motor [0.76 Qts], so not designed for typical vented cab alignments, so imagine you're getting 820+ L net volume [Vb] tuned ~low 20s [Fb].

To put it in a small vented cab, then lossy vents are normally used, so what's 'special' about the SS vents? Got a link to them?

Regardless, the smallest cab I historically used for such ~aperiodic alignments is [measured] Vas/1.44 = ~70.74 L [published].

the driver has very little max linear excursion. I used it for a while on OB and then implemented AL200 instead; with a different (active) crossover the latter sounds much better. From early days experiments with B200 playing through cardboard enclosures I got the impression that this driver was meant for some kind of horn.

They're just their 'aperiodic' (groan) vents: Scanspeak 290001 Aperiodic Vent (SSV)

In fairness, a nicely finished way of doing it, albeit imprecise. Based on fallible memory, Louis over at Omega briefly used a couple on a roughly 35 litre box with the B200, which seems a bit small to me, even with a couple of those vents bleeding off pressure.

What driver would you recommend Scottmoose? I know you have done a ton of box designs like no ones business and you have worked with about all the full range driver's out there. I wonder if you have worked with the Mark audio Alpair P12 drivers or the newish M11 drivers? Well thanks for your help as always. Jeff

For the B200 there is actually only one good use i think, and that is open baffle.

I don't have the experience of Scott, but look at Mark Audio, Fostex or Tang Band for good drivers of more or less that size. My personal favorite is the Mark Audio Alpair 10.3M wich is also very similar priced over here. Many also say it's better than the bigger 12P and many designs exist for it. I use one pair in a sealed 11.5L box as a part of a waw (with a 10" scanspeak woofer in a seperate box) and one pair in a 17.9L ported bookshelf.

I've worked to some extent with all the MA drivers -many of the cabinet designs on their site were worked up by me at some point over the past few years. So they're worth looking at; my personal favourite happens to be the 12P although it can't get quite as low as some. I just like the extra dynamic range etc. The 11MS is interesting too -most people do not seem to find the high Q cancellation in the LF audible.

Lots of options from a variety of manufacturers though; ultimately it depends on size & cost, rest of system etc.

The B200 is really happiest on a baffle, or a large resistively vented cabinet, although a slightly higher internal pressure may mass-load the cone & balance off that rising HF response to some extent. I wouldn't care to design assuming that condition though as you're in the realms of guesswork, especially under dynamic load conditions.
