Something like a BUF634 is another though more expensive solution.
I´ve used it to split rails of a 30V wallwart and it worked out really nice. Besides the BUF634 has only about 1.5mA quiescent current in low-bandwidth-mode which is keeps your batteries happy.
Have a look at the datasheet especially where it says "pseudo-ground driver".

The point is that I don't want to have to use 2 batteries...
