Nothing virtual about it, it's just a battery and a charger built into the preamp, so the pre runs on battery most of the time and charges up when it gets flat or when it's not in use.

I mean exactly not mention that, here "Virtual Battery Operation" really don't use any battery at all
Use several farad capacitors then connect them to the op-amp. The op-amp should last for a few months to years with out charging the capacitors again.
Yes, you can use a capacitor instead of using batteries in a pager or beeper. It should last for a few weeks on vibration mode.

The "Virtual Battery Operation" solution used Andrea Ciuffoli and he "stoled" from the Technics (but he confess🙂). Here is her amplifier the Power Follower 99:

I think the circuit is a through regulator with Mosfet.
