Well, this seems to be a bit fanatical.... found it on Amazon.ca

"A veritable audiophile delicacy - lovingly preserved historic microphones, a mixing desk consisting of nostalgic V72 amplifiers and W85 regulators, the analogue M5 Telefunken tape recorder - each item a legend in itself! May we proudly present this illustrious combination of equipment, here to preserve beautiful music "TUBE ONLY", in other words without transistors. The CD leaflet is illustrated with impressive colour photos. Available on CD, SACD and even on (180g, recorded without the use of transistors)."

"One of the most exceptionally sounding LPs I have ever heard! Everything about it is extraordinary - texture of the instruments, the attack of the violin. Very glad I got it."

I bought a Simm-Watts 100watt PA amplifier and used that with my guitar.
Sounded pretty poor.
Then I took the amp to a big room and cranked it up. The guitar sound then really rocked.
Plenty of "good" distortion.

The mixer I made has no feedback so wont be very flat.
I am on my third build now and they all sound pretty much the same.

I have designed hybrid amps too but couldn't tell much difference in the sound from normal SS.

I have a Marshall "valvestate" guitar amp that has a valve pre amp.
It sounds ok but not a patch on a full valve amp.

adding some experiences with musical instruments (guitar amps) doesn't change the fact that you can make tube circuits with flat FR that are very neutral. Now if you want your mixer to brighten things up then you've hit on the right thing, but you don't need GNFB for flat FR. Let's face it almost no discrete preamps of any technology (by discrete meaning not op amp) use global feedback.

Solo piano is possibly not your thing, but the Boyk recordings are superb and worth a listen if only once.
