Almost sure the surrounds have to be replaced. Audiofriends has the originals from Müller. Their glue also seems to hold on PP cones (at least on some old SEAS here it does). Other suppliers might be good too. Don’t bother to revive the old surrounds, you can’t fix the broken molecular structure of the material.
That depends on how oxidised the surrounds are. If they survive being sanded without cracking, the silicone can soak in and soften the rubber. sometimes rubber is just too far gone, but in that case it'll break.
I think this is a very overrated driver, i bought a pair many years ago but sold them quickly when i realised i did not like the sound of them, i very much prefered the c17wh. still, many years later and because of the hype and cult i bought a pair now made by scan speak and they still sounds like crap, it sounds dull and lack bass and it distorts like hell maybe due to the very soft dust cap
Celef,
So, these have what i call soggy poly sound ?
I have liked some mineral filled poly.
Morel m144 (once) and lately the ticw638nd.
Maybe this one is low on mica (talc powder) ?
I've always been a paper fan, or even fiberglass.
What 6-6.5" do you recommend ?
No bass ?
4ohm p17 has qts .32 and fs 43hz ? F3 63hz ported.
8ohm p17 has qts .35 and fs 37hz ? F3 45 hz ported (not bad).
I do admit, nothing really special for $85 us dollars,
Except pretty flat response (4ohm), fairly flat z-curve, and drop in replacement if you have originals.
Intermod high ? Hd high ?
But the 4ohm has caught my attention.
Does it not stack up compared to a peerless ne180 or dayton rs180p ?
