Hi.
I am an owner of a greek made pair of floorstanders. Each speaker has two Vifa P17WJ-00-08 midwoofers and one D25TG-35-06 tweeter in MTM configuration. The crossover is 2nd order L/R (electrical) at about 2400Hz. The cabin is thin and tall. The speakers serve me for 30 years, usually in low and medium SPLs.
The problem is that the surrounds of the vifas became stiff. When i press a surround gently it needs many seconds to regain it's shape.
So i am thinking of replacing them. The spec sheet of the vifas refers "high dumping rubber surround". I do not know if the rubber is styrene-butadiene (SBR), nitrile- butadiene (NBR) or butyl rubber or something else.
To your experience which type of rubber is best suited to offer high dumping?
High dumping surround is similar to low loss surround described at some online stores that sell refoam kits?
Will it be necessary to replace the spiders too after so many years of use? Visually they look fine.

Is the bass/dynamics suffering? If you are happy with the sound of them still I would not replace them, these are some of the highest performance-over-price-ratio drivers ever made. Replacing them would require probably a different crossover and perhaps also then another tweeter, ie a different speaker all together. I really regret throwing mine away.
What about this link.
https://willys-hifi.com/collections/6-5-inch-bass-speakers/products/vifa-p17wj-00-08-woofer
Maybe available a bit closer to home, or from within the EU community to keep prices to a minimum.

Or this https://solen.ca/products/speakers/...ifa-p17wj0008-17cm-polypropylene-cone-woofer/
About half the price of the above.

You can get replacement surrounds from here

I like those......................
I'd like to do a mtm with either of the newer scanspeak repro's but try a morel cat378

Nice speaker 😉
+1 for changing the surrounds ... it's not really that difficult ...
After that you could do some measurements and consider changes/modifications to filter (re-cap only el-lyt). If you go wild you could probably even fit a small waveguide (e.g. Visaton) ... which will require some changes to filtering.

Sorry for my absence.
Thank you for the response.
I'll probably get these https://speakerrepairshop.nl/en/rub...er-ring-for-vifa-p17wj-woofer/a-3726-10000054
or these https://repairyourspeakers.com/en/f...-rubber-genuine-surround-vifa/a-3024-20000122.
The last one is the exact code, SR143 that my midwoofers have on the surrounds.

Even though they are double up in price I would go for the original, and have good experience with Audiofriends 😉
..... but the other ones might be as good 😉
But the original ones will retain the same T/S parameters as before, ensuring correct box tuning etc.

The bass is thin and less extended than the previous years and the mids are over-presented. I know that this comes somehow with the D' Appolito arrangement but i can't stand it anymore. I think the new softer surrounds will restore the bass and provide more balanced sound. I made the mistake to store them at my basement for just one year and the cold deteriorated the rubber of the midwoofers. Is the bass/dynamics suffering? That's what i am thinking, keeping the behaviour of the speakers as close to original as possible so i will not need to modify the cabinets and their tuning or even the crossover. My next concern are the spiders. I can't find the exact dimensions, outer dia 90mm, inner 32mm. Do you think that after 30 years i have to replace them too?Even though they are double up in price I would go for the original, and have good experience with Audiofriends 😉

I have no experience in such modifications and the proper instruments for measurements. For now i just need to get them sound good again.Nice speaker 😉

I've fixed a set of very old vifa rubber surrounds by carefully sanding the surrounds with some very fine wet-and-dry (wet in this case, to remove the oxidized rubber), giving them a good clean, then coating with silicone spray. Takes all of a minute or 2, good as new.
It for sure is worth a try 😉
Do you have any means of making before and after measurement? Impedance, Freq responce and distortion would be interesting to see.
As for the spider .... no do not try that. It's made of cloth so does not degrade in the same way, and I would not think it is easy to change at all.
