Because the D27-45-06 is no longer available and whilst not perfect I found it easy to use.
How much difference did the bulged faceplate actually make and what other differences were there between these tweeters?
I have to ask because I've not pulled a 45-06 apart to look.

At a budget level which tweeters from which makers are people now recommending as a replacement?
I know that the Peerless D2606-922000 is touted as a replacement for the 35-06 but the Fs of the other tweeter was lower and lower is often considered better when using simple crossovers. Cost is always an issue with my builds so esoteric/high end tweeters are simply not on my radar screen or in my wildest thoughts.
Important to me as I started a project almost 8 years ago and house renovations got in the way and SWMBO is requesting that I finish the bedroom speakers. These were based on the DIY Audio Reference thread using the Vifa P-13 and the D27-45 and I do not have a pair of the tweeters left

The D27TG/P13 design started with the D27TG45-06 and then moved onto the D27TG35-06. The latter is the tweeter that was used in the crossover designs from post #179 and could be used for both versions. My builds and most of the others were done with the TG35.

The D27TG35-06 from 2008 had an Fs of 880Hz so the Scan Speak D2606/922000 should drop straight in but I have never used it.

I did try several other tweeters. SEAS 27TDFC and 27TFFC with the latter being the better choice IMO even though both were fine. These are non existent in Oz. I even used the zillion dollar S2905/970000 I had laying around which worked very well but not in keeping with the budget.

I never found other tweeters that worked so well in the standard series crossover as they tended to have a rising response on some and all had a roll off that was like a plateau which wasn't far down at Fs. The AR series version can handle these tweeters but is a more complex crossover.

I've modelled a few of the Peerless, SB Acoustics tweeters and they too don't like the low order series crossover.

The Scanspeak D2606/920000 has the same faceplate as the old Vifa but not the dual chamber rear and the Fs is 1100 Hz which is far too high for my needs. I'd do some component swapping if I had the cash. Putting the Scanspeak faceplate on the Peerless tweeter and do the pole piece modifications but I doubt anybody would buy the spare bits when reassembled into a Frankentweeter

This is why I asked about the effect of the bulged faceplate.
There is no felt or anything in the pole piece or rear chamber of the 922000 and I know I can fix that, it apparently being a very common tweak and I just did exactly that on my old Jaycar 32mm tweeters

DIY D27-45-06

Vifa parts are interchangeable for the most part. So I just spent an hour or so taking apart a couple of pairs of tweeters and making a D27 45 clone.
I took apart a pair each of the old D26 with the aluminium dome and the pair of D27SG15 and swapped stuff around. The domed faceplate from the shielded tweeter was mated to the open backed magnet of the other and the hole was filled with a small amount of long fibre wool held in place with a scrap of UL foam. I also swapped voice coils around as I do prefer the silk dome to the aluminium .
Now all I need to do is see if they sound any better or smoother and if and when I can afford the other gear I'll measure them

I have a question about the Vifa D27TG-05.
It has a plug in center of magnet in the rear that is swaged in.
Do you know if it can be driven out from the from with a punch?
I want to eventually make a D27TG35-06 out of it as I bought 5 on accident.
Any thoughts?
