greetings!
i am a bit new to the forum and have gotten to the point of complete confusion and frustration 🙁 I was not sure how to go about finding out information of things in particular. I have one of the older viewframe TFT's and have run into a big of a snag :/
the serial number on the back is 150042 b
It was working fine for a short while but now the display slowly fades out completely 🙁 Is this a power supply issue or a cable issue? the main screen seems to come up fine with the viewframe tft logo etc, that multicolored stainglass logo. There are no dead pixels that I am aware of. I have no idea what the specs are exactly on the power supply as it did not come with one :/
I have a mac to vga video adaptor plug (part number on the plug is 590-1118-a
I am sincerely confused as to why the picture fades 🙁 I have tried a number of different power supplys :/ all 12 volt ones with max of 1250ma? and even a 12v 1 amp plug. I have seen posts here and there in this forum about nothing less that 1.9 amps. or something to that effect.
I have an old pc AT power supply also.
pc100 switching power model: ps150
ac input: 100v - 240v auto
3a 60/50hz
+5v / +12v / +3.3v / -12v / 5vsb / ground / ps-on# / p.g. /
10a / 2a / 6a / 0.2a / 1a / return / signal / signal /
I will post photo's later today i promise! 🙂
I just dont know what to do at this point :/ I would kill for a manual or pdf on this thing heh.. I hope i am posting in the right area :/ Please let me know your thoughts on this if possible folks? 🙂
Thank you for your time and consideration 🙂 I have some interesting other questions about it as well.. like the three little voltage thingys inside and the covered 3,5,7 volt holes on the inside of the caseing.. has anyone else ever noticed these?.. etc..
thanks!@

Heya lucide, welcome to the forum🙂
Normally a panel can fade or go dark due to it over heating, have you taken any notice on how hot the panel is getting?
Unfortunatley with lcd's it doesnt take too much heat to overheat one and to get the very symtoms your getting, normally you wouldnt want to run one over 115f. The ideal operating temperature is in the 50 - 100f range.
If this turns out the be a heat issue check to see if you have any filters that need cleaning, also try to clean the fans of any dust as they cant fully perform being all clogged up.
You certainly are😉
Trev🙂

Heya ace3000_1
Thnxs for the welcoming! 🙂 I am actually looking forward to some funky OHP design work once all the basics are in place and WORKING. lol
As for the panel, well, I am using a buhl 80/14 OHP i picked up for 20bux at a local store here in Austin (goodwill computerworks) (yes believe it or not, there is a goodwill store here that sells nothing but but computers, electronics any possibly crazy thing you could think of actually! its insane!) That's also where I nabbed the viewframe TFT for 20bux also.
Sorry I did not mention the price earlier lol. This being my second post I will get the hang of all this stuff soon enough. hehe It was actually working fine when i first got it as far as powering up. As far as i can see, it never had any heat issues. I did/do not have a temp meter yet so I could not say exactly what the normal running heat was. I checked the inside of the panel and it was clean as a whistle. no dust, burnt out ciruits or anything. everything was spotless Both fans work in the unit also...
The first power supply I tried using when i first got it, was a variable multi powersupply from radio shack. max 12v 300 Ma
that actually got the panel to power on but I could never get past the inital splash screen. So feeling brave, I decided to user a 12v 1 amp supply and that actually got the ****** to work, It was a 12volt supply from a toshiba cable modem. To my surprise, it sprayed my desktop across the wall! yea! heh what a tease! :/ everything was working perfect for about 2 hours. Then it started the whole slooooowly fading out thing.
Now, when ever I try plugging it in, (usually i have to wait like hours and hours and hours!) The screen shows up like before but fades quickly.. (with 50 to 60 seconds or so) the panel never seems hot or anything :/ So i am wondering, is it a power supply issue? What are the exact specs on the PS? 🙁
oh, on a random note, has anyone ever been to this site? is this for real? I checked it out but could not navigate it at all?
http://www.nview.de/
http://www.nview.de/?content=market
supposedly!, the have all this information on nVIEW stuff but there are no links or anything :/ those were the only two pages i could find. I tried sending a email to the address on the second link but it came back bunk 🙁 (but of course heh) So i was just curious if anyone knows anything about it :/
The video cable I am using is just a belkin monitor 15pin extension cable going to my video card (asylum geforce4 4200 ti 128ddr). I have tried all different refresh rates etc. no luck there.
I will try to put my specs first in future msgs. I am still getting used to this posting thing 🙂
I am still wondering about the ol AT power supply thing. is it usable I wonder?
Thanks for the fast response!

are the fans on the panel working? Probably a stupid question, but worth asking.
I'm running my sharp panel ( 1.95amp, 12 volts) of an at power supply. 12volts+ is on a hard drive molex connector, yellow wire, negative on the black one next to it.

AT power supply on viewframe TFT
heya bodgy,
yep, everything seems to be fine as far as the fans goes and the internals of the panel. So those at power supplys do actually work for the panel thing? Does it matter if it is a switching power supply? I read somewhere a while back that there needed to be something pulling from the 5volt feed in or to have it working properly :/
What process did you do to get the proper amping from the 12volt feed? and do i just bridge the green wire and the black wire to power up/on? I was a little nervous about taking that approach but at this point I have been quickly running out of options.
going insane here 🙂

photo's as promised 🙂
Here are the contents of my rig thus far. hope these help to get a better idea. I would take a photo of myself pulling my hair out but I don't think they alow such violent pictures on here. 🙂 there are going to be a few so i hope this does not bother anyone. :/ I am just trying to be accurate 🙂

and finally! the power supply i was using on the viewframe TFT when it started fading out 🙁
sorry about all the pictures :/ I just wanted to be as spec. as possible. In the future I will try and cut back on the pics. The camera I am using is a canon a60 powershot. I think its like 2.1mp and 7.5x zoom. I am still trying to figure out how to take better pics hehe. My wife and I dont use it a whole lot so I am still learning all the details about it. but the quality of my pics will get better. lol ( ihope!)
thanks all!

ok, I am a little confused :/ some of my posts/pics are not showing up 🙁 hopefully they will appear later lol... I am also going to see if i can post these on another site where i can just put all the pics up together. 🙂 I would throw them on my server but my NIX box is still under construct hehe.. anywaaaayz! thanks again folks for the responses and such! you guys are the best! 🙂 as soon as i get a functional panel working, the crazy OHP project will begin! muahaha! This should be quite the process as I am determined to make this thing look like a modern art piece lol.
sincere thanks all!

oops hehe
Sorry about the massive amount of posts with all that picture stuff lol I suppose it would have made more sense to just make a website and put a link. (feels silly now) the images are under the links my hardware 1 and my hardware 2. You may need to pull the pics from the pages to see the fine details on some of them. anyway 🙂 Live and learn I guess lol...
Have a happy halloween everyone!!!
sincerely,

AT psu's are the old style. It will have a normal switch that used to go on the front of a pc case, they turn on independant of the motherboard, no need to short green on black, thats for ATX style.
I have also read the AT style does apparently need something on the 5 volt to give steady 12, but mine works fine without anything on it. I think I read that this isn't an issue with atx though.
I've been doing this for about a month. Does the psu you plan on using have one big motherboard connector, or 2 separate ones?
