Video projector with Extra utilities

Would like to build a video projector that allows me to cast hand shadows or a layer with colored liquids (large sharp sillhoutes) say 15 cms (6 inches) from the light sorce.
Have experimented with diverse slide projectors but no luck with getting sharp shadows.
Dont expect great replies in a forum primarily geared to audio, but anyone being able to shed light about the optics of such a system would be appreciated.

For what it sounds like you need, its pointless to build a projector. You could just buy an old slide projector for $10 or so and use that.

Thanks for replying, but I need to combine also a video input.
Its difficult to get sharp large shadows at that distance with
your hands with sunlight at a short distance it is different.

sounds like an old ohp would do the trick for hand shadows.
