hello guys
i got a 19" pc monitor that i'm not using .is it possible to connect simple rca video signal to the pc monitor somehow?
the monitor got rgb connector right? so how do i convert rca video to this?

get a vga box. I cant tell you where to get one online, because I dont know either, lol. Its like a small box with rca inputs and a vga 15 pin output. Many members here use one. I for one, use a TV tuner card, with Dcaler software, on my PC to display TV on my monitor, and I get very decent results.

Yea, I guess you can run it direct, if you split it to R,G,B, and get the Vertical and Horisontal syncs. Standard TV is around 15Mhz or someting, and progressive scan (480p) is 30... You wouldnt get very decent quality at standard tv, i mean, 720x480 at 60fps interlaced would be pretty crappy still. I hope youre talking about a CRT monitor, and not an LCD one. As far as I know LCD monitors cant pull off interlaced video.
You'd be better off getting a scaler, tv box, or a computer-scaler.
My vote - computer scaler for best quality for the price, or a scaler for quality and simplisity, yet would be pretty pricey for a decent one.

The short answer no you can't use a PC monitor for TV without a video processor.

The PC monitor is looking for the signals to be in the RGBHV format. That is the (R)ed, (G)reen, (B)lue,(H)orizontal sync,
(V)ertical sync are all sent to the PC monitor on seperate wires. The horizontal rate for PCs is much different than TV and is progressive scan.

TV signals are what is call interlaced composite video. That is the video information is mixed with the color information and decoded by the TV circuits and the Horizontal sweep rate in the US is 15734 hertz.

The PC monitor can't do anything with the TV signals, they need to be converted into signals the PC minotor can use. The TV card that can be used with conputers digitizes the analong video signal and sends it off to the video card in the PC for processing so that the monitor can display the information
