Video connections on HT receiver - why?

Hi forum.

I'm extremely new to the HT scene. I'm attempting to help a friend put a system together but I only focus on 2 channels so I have what is likely a daft question.

What's the point of composite/s-video/component connections on a HT receiver? What does an amp do for images?? Or is it a sync thing?

so you can switch between different sources with one button, when you select " DVD " for example, it will switch the amp to dvd audio in, and will pass the dvd video to the video output. Also some recievers up-convert compsite and svideo to component output, so you can connect everything using component out on the reciever, and get the maximum quality possible.

btw, shouldn't this be in one of the audio forums? like solid state?
