Like you may have see.. I now have my OHP, my nec 1545v is on his way, now the only thing I need is a way to send vga output to my LCD. I've read many thread , still don't know what to do.
I want to be able to play any source on my projector, console, vcr, cable, dvd, etc..
I do have a computer with a dvd, well it's a dvd-r but who cares. Athlon 1.4 so speed is not an issue. And I don't think I'll do my setup to be a portable one.. I mean, I don't want to move my OHP, LCD and screen all the time. If so.. it's not a problem to bring my pc too lol.
So what should I buy? Tv tunner? viewsonic n5? all in wonder? Anything else?
Thanks

I would use a TV tuner or the viewsonic as the ATI all in wonder is not a gamers video card.

the newer all-in-wonders can hold their own as gaming cards. but you're talking $250+ for one of them. i think they just came out with a radeon 9500 AIW, but cant quite remember. i have one of the older ones and it works great as a HTPC. not great for graphic-intesive games, but no complaints with everything else
What should I buy get between the bv50hrtv and the n5?! There's a 50$ CND differance between the 2
which one...
Sorry I have no clue which is better, I'm just going from what I've heard in the forum referance the viewsonics...the all in wonders I have had personal experience with left me "wanting" ...too much bucks for too little bang.

gui_999,
I am in the same boat as you....I am trying to get everything figured out before I build my HTPC or upgrade an older PC that I have. I have a question...when everyone is talking about gaming, are they talking about running games off of the computer, or are you talking about running a game system (e.g. Playstation 2) through the computer. If you are talking about running games off the computer, then is it possible to input a playstation 2 through the computer without buying a VGA converter....and if so, what benifits, if any would there be to running the playstation 2 through the computer. I plan on using an XGA monitor for my projector.
Thank you

With my tuner card I can accept video from many sources rca, svideo and coaxial. The kids can play nintendo 64 no problem, but due to the limited on board memory of my controller fast action PC games are not a good issue (doesn't bother me...I play AOE and stuff like that ). Those of you that are supplying your LCD with VGA should find good results as you are using the much more efficient and faster architechture of your video cards.
Tuners come in MANY flavours..be sure to do your homework before you buy one.

well I for now my choice is the vb50hrtv, 1024*768 resolution, cable in, composite in, s-video in, audio in, vga out 🙂. Or maybe the viewsonic n5. The n5 cost like 50-60$ more and for what I've read, have 3:2 pull down with de-interlacing, parental control and closed caption. but does it worth the $ ? don't think so
159$ CND here for the vb50hrtv.
I've looked for pci card, like the leadtek tv2000xp, but no composite in or s-video, only cable coax
Ati well I don't like them.

Look into the MSI TV@nywhere, it also supports a "lan tv station" for internal networks.

well the tv-4000 is the same product then the viewsonic vb50hrtv. Exept that the viewsonic can be found between 80-90$ US
My choice is allmost made.. N5 or the VB50HRTV. The N5 have 3:2 pull down with de-interlacing, so the picture should be sharper than the vb50hrtv, but does it worth 70$ CND more than the vb50hrtv
looky what i found.....
the VB50HRTV SUX! with a Capital S U X !!!
anywho check this out http://grandtec.com/ there should be more converters on that site but i dont have time to look right now.

Well I have the Veiwsonic vtb50 (dang, whatever its called) and All i can say is, it is better then my TV card (Leadtech WinFast TV2000 XP) for this type of aplication. This tuner box works wonderfull on a pc Monitor and i can recommend it for that.
With that said, I have yet to make it work with my NView Spectra C. The picture on my Nview is oof by 2 inchs up and to the right when hooked to this tuner box.
The quality and options on the box are very good (again, when on a monitor), having a volume and chanel swithc with a romote is very nice. Also having other options for picture control are nice...IF IT WORKED with my panel!
the other good thing is it can be had for roughly $60 on E-Bay if you look enough ( got mine for $52 and $10 shipping).
Just my 2 cents

Well, for what I've read, with panel, vga box seem to have problems, and not with monitors. I've just ordered my Nec 1545v, so there's not problem.
The only thing I need to know, if the quality difference between the vb50hrtv and the n5. The thing I'm sure is that it's deinterlace and double the lines since monitor needs progressive scan to work and sync

Well the guy I bought mine from on E-bay said he replaced it with the n5 (the vtb50), he said he had sold the n5 also as he felt for what he was doing he prefered the older model, he said as far as Image he noticed very little if any difference on a 17 CRT, and he said the menus on the n5 where slower then the older one. Take all this info with a grain of salt, I do not know this person other then buying the VTB50 off of him. He was not selling me the n5 so there was no reason to for him to talk good or bad about it, and I had already purchased the VTB50 when he gave me the comments. These are second hand comments and may or may not be worth the time it took for me to type them. But since nobody else is mentioning any info I thought I would share what little I did know.
