The (US Navy) NEETS texts are classics. They have trained thousands of ignorant sailor-recruits for decades.

The Navy Electricity and Electronics Training Series (NEETS) was developed for use by personnel in many electrical/electronic related Navy ratings. Written by, (and with the advice of), senior technicians in these ratings, this series provides beginners with fundamental electrical and electronic concepts through self-study.
The series is designed to give small amounts of information that can be easily digested before advancing further into the more complex material. For a student just becoming acquainted with electricity or electronics, it is highly recommended that the modules be studied in their suggested sequence.
"Folkscanomy Electronics" on archive.org has a LOT of random electronics books. Some too good to be free, but they are.

AWESOME, thanks. I am a Marine, so I need it to be at the dumbest level. XDThe (US Navy) NEETS texts are classics. They have trained thousands of ignorant sailor-recruits for decades.

I must admit though, I am very confused as to why this needs to be said at the beginning of a MILITARY textbook:
Not trying to spark a debate but man things have just changed big time since I was active duty. I was discriminated against every day... Multiple times... haha
I digress--thank you again for the suggestion! I'm going to get cracking!
This is one of the first books that I bought many years ago, and still gets picked up from time to time.
Art of Electronics is a great reference once you've progressed past the basics.
There are many good online resources such as electronics-tutorials.ws and Rod Elliot's site.

So you must share the more details about it, then will be able to share my views on it.I’m looking for a very basic, intro type book on circuits, I mean absolute beginners guide. I have no electronics background so what most on here would consider basic is probably not to me.
I’m faking my way through things by being careful and following instructions but it’s just not very smart doing it this way.
Not strictly a beginners item, but the most useful single book on electronics that you can own:

If you need more of a beginner's book, get the second edition used, or the free public domain ebook version.

We are fortunate that today we have Google guru. I've downloaded more than 100 books (digital copies) from Google.
That's fine if your building one off's.Best reason to know the resistor colour code by heart I've ever heard.

I build hundreds so dont have the time to check every component.
Sounds like you should take it up with your component distributor then.I build hundreds so dont have the time to check every component.
