My Velodyne SPL-800 subwoofer that comes with Velodyne DECO hometheater system is making crackling sound. The service guy at local Velodyne service center mentioned over the phone that the electronic board needs to be rebuilt. I have the following options to replace/fix it.
1) Velodyne Auth Service to rebuild electronic board. Minimum $300
2) Buy Third Party Plate Amplifier @ Yung SD500-6 500W Class D Subwoofer Amp Module w/6dB@25Hz 301-514 fro $240
3) Order plate amp from Velodyne Service Center and replace amp, hoping the problem is with plate amp. $313 + shipping.
4) Buy internet direct selling Subwoofer like STF-2 Subwoofer for $400 approx.
5) Buy Subwoofer kit @ Dayton Audio T1003K 10" Titanic Mk III Subwoofer Kit 300-760 for $400
6) Find a used Subwoofer from Swap Meet section of this forum.
I am not big on sound but looking for decent sub for my simple home theater. My room is may be 10' X 16'
Please help me to make a decision.

Exchange?
Change URLI beleive you should be able to exchange the plate amp for a rebuilt one for less money. Contact Velodyne to see if they still offer this service. If you want to buy a new sub other than a Velodyne see: http://www.rythmikaudio.com/products.html

Great. Thanks for the response. I have already asked Velodyne service for refurbished amp.
Just wondering how much it would cost me to buy new similar performing subwoofer (600 RMS). Should I be better off buying a new one for around $400 or get it fixed for $300.
