I picked these panels up on ebay and was wondering which I should sell and which one I should keep to strip. First thing is I'm not sure if I could strip and lcd properly as I tried it with one and it broke. and now I have these two and I don't know if I should just resell them or keep them. any suggestions. if your interested in buying them feel free to email me.

I just stripped down a VG151 and it didn't work out to well. It's the first time I've done it, I didn't break it or anything, but the boards are definatly in the way and cannot be moved so I'm going to loose about half the monitor :xeye: I'll post some pics later when I have some time, maybe someone can help me too.

Yeah, he sent me the pictures too. It seems that at some point Viewsonic changed the layout of the boards a bit and made it less friendly even, or perhaps mine was earlier and they made it more friendly to projection. The boards on mine are attached to the panel on the bottom and right hand sides and are connected to eachother by a flat cable that bends at a 90 degree angle. If I move the boards, that cable will no longer reach to connect the two. I'll attach a picture, let me know if you have any suggestions.

Gabossie, the cable you are refering to is an FCC cable, it is possible to make/ buy a premade 3,6,9 inch extension. you just need to count the number of pins you have on that tiny little connector, one can be built from mouser.com parts for under 10usd. or you can goto LumenLab.com, in there store they sell these as well as anything you;d need for your projector, i just bought the plans to get into the forum and i highly recommend it, any and everything youd ever want to know, and people that can actually answer questions, and are happy to do it.

seek and ye shall find...

Just try using that little Search button on the upper right side of your screen, with FFC Extender in the keyword box. There are very good threads here with photos, sources, instructions, etc. This is NOT a problem: Most LCDs have the same type of FFC between the driver boards.

?
isnt the panel going to be inside of an enclosure? i think id keep the better of the two and sell the lower quality one. if youd like i can post a link on L.L.🙂
id be all over the 151 but i just got a daewoo w/ bad backlight on ebay for 25.50 shipped😀

use a 28 circuit socket & jumper

You don't need to replace your existing FFC, you just need to extend it, which is easy.

Buy a 28 pin FFC ZIF socket: (You are just using it as a clamp to hold the two jumper ends together, so the number of pins does not matter!) You will have to trim the ends of a 28 trace jumper down to 26 traces, with the exact spacing of your existing 26 trace jumper. Then tape the two jumpers together about 10 mm back from the ends, to keep them aligned perfectly while you put them in the socket and get the lock in.

mouser.com has 28 trace jumpers and FFC sockets on page 1045 of their latest online catalog. Use a type C vertical socket: They are very strong.
