I am an electronics guy that builds a lot of amps from chip amps to my favorite, Nelson pass amps.
Is there anyone in the Vancouver Washington/portland,Or. area that can help on the speaker side of things?

You weren't very specific about what sort of help you wanted in the first post. Woodworking puts it on the mark. I'll bet there is a woodworking club near you. Might find someone there that would help.

I'm not sure if woodworking interest you or if an adequate makerspace exist on your side of the Columbia river, but I'm sure Portland has some spots worth looking into if you are. Classes, machine safety checkouts and open shop time are generally available

I'm in the Seattle area, but I go to Portland now and then. It looks like there is a Northwest Woodworkers Association in the Seattle area.

Can you share roughly what you had built and what you paid $$ for the job with / without material cost

Sort of small book shelf, large book shelf, floor standing, large floor standing.
Simple joints, fancy miter joints.
Braced or not.
Unfinished, Painted, lacquered or veneer?
Solid, Plywood or MDF
Was it CNC or all manual cuts.

Have you looked at Rockler Woodworking and Hardware in the Beaverton area? They do classes and they will tailor them to your interests. Staffed full of older guys who like to chat about wood and tools. As an aside I'm in Camas but also more interested in the electronics and Pass amplifiers.

Another option is to find a local community college with a wood working program, and sometimes they will take work for a small fee.

@Landoctor - have you considered starting with a kit? I've built several GR-Research speakers starting with their flat-packs and have been very impressed with the quality. The cabinets are very well made with lots of internal bracing. They have box speakers as well as open baffle. I live in Portland and would be happy to demo then if you are interested.

I’m in Salem, though I tend to go for paint based finishes. These are my lab speakers so a flat grey to blend in.

Unless they go under the bench, then they stay bare lol.

I built a number of speakers in past years but gave up my woodshop when i moved to Battle Ground, WA 3 years ago. I have a neighbor who says I can use his shop, but if I want to build some speakers I might check out the Oregon Woodworking Guild. Good luck with building.
