All was valve when I was a boy. I have recently reverted to valve amplification eg Phono (Croft) pre(MC7R) ,power (Atlas Magnum) & tuner(Leak) only CD to go. even my speakers OT Quad 57's date to the era of valves.
I have lurked looking at this site for some time, I have done some valve rolling with great success . However my modding/upgrading skills need honing & with the help of the experts on this site that is what I hope to do.

Thank you for your gracious welcome it was your 2007 input on reducing the gain on an the Mingda MC7R that attracted me to this site in the first place as I have one with too much gain.
Mark at Mingda UK has reduced the gain by a factor but not enough, his suggestion was a pair of ECC82 in the 12AX7/ECC83 holes I have put a pair of NOS RFT Funkwerk M8136/CV4003 the best mod I have done so far improvements everywhere deep deep bass but only if it is on the recording or broadcast. but I still need to reduce the gain as the Atlas has a 1v sensitivity, Mark the ming suggests making the MC7R variable gain as the phono stage has less than half the output of the CD & Leak with Tim de Paravicini Stereo decoder.
The MC7R/Atlas Magnum drive the Quads so well the mid range & treble are to die for, they must be one of a few pairs of Quad 57's that do bass such that no subwoofer is needed or contemplated.
An extraordinary claim I know but evidenced by those who have heard music from them.
However there is always room for improvement somewhere...
Gracias Osvaldo

Thanks Cal, love your speaker selection in "some of Cal's stuff" how many are open baffle. I use old esl Quads & like that sort of unfettered sound...

Hi John, thanks. I'm not sure. Some of them have open mids and tweets but none are OB woofs. There's actually more but I haven't updated the site in a long time. At last count I think I have 30 something sets and enough drivers for a bunch more. I have very little in the way of EMI transducers except for tweeters.
Do you have pics?
Cheers.
