USPS Shipping Mess?

USPS just sent me a chunk of metal. I was expecting it to arrive on Saturday when the outside temperature will be 27 degrees F at best.

I just checked my Mouser account's order that I placed this afternoon...
Apparently it's coming in TWO boxes, TWO tracking numbers, no info yet, too early.
Estimated delivery Jan 31, UPS ground.
I'm a bit surprised though... two boxes?... some capacitors, a 14"x10" Hammond chassis/lid, LEDs, Solder Wick, nothing terribly large.

As for that VOM shipment from USPS...
"Departed USPS Regional Facility
SAN DIEGO CA DISTRIBUTION CENTER
January 26, 2023, 1:31 am"

Delivery still listed as Tommorrow!
So... I guess it's having a good time on it's "road trip"
I hope it doesn't stop in Las Vegas to gamble with my money.

I'll keep everyone posted as I get more info.

Two boxes because it's probably cheaper to ship that way...

Here the electric company stopped taking cheques from industrial customers, electronic transfer from bank, or credit / debit card only. They do accept drafts and banker's cheques.
Others can pay cash only up to 10,000 Rupees, above that check, or as above.
I asked, they said check takes too long, and in hard times they had problems with cheques being returned due to insufficient funds

Indian Post is okay in South India, damaged parcels and slow delivery in North India.

I guess cheques are still common in the USA. In Canada, we're moving away from them due to fraud. Most payments from something like a 401K (I think we call that an RRSP) would be directly deposited here.
All recurring payments from any financial institution are direct deposit to my bank account. I pay my bills on my computer and do not write checks, though my wife does write a few for the places that don't have modern banking equipment like our 1950's vintage rural water department. They won't even take a credit card, only cash or check.

The check in question was supposed to be a "direct rollover" where one financial institution transfers the entire amount of my retirement account to a different financial institution via bank transfer. The originating institution refused to do this for an unknown reason, and was generally uncooperative, and my account was losing money at an accelerating rate. This was a large sum of money. I finally accepted a check mailed to me, which I had to get deposited into another qualified institution within 60 days or risk severe penalties from the IRS. It took them nearly 30 of those days to get me that check, and less than 2 hours for me to mail it out to the receiving institution. Of course, I got a bit irritated when it went missing.

Looks like a turntable platter bearing assembly.
If so, something like that should be packed in foam.
With 4 large studs on 100 mm centers it would be a SERIOUS turntable. It looked to me like the wheel hubs I got from Carroll Shelby back when I was racing FWD Dodges in the 80's and early 90's.

Speaking of Amazon... I don't like them all that much but I needed a front drive shaft for my car.

BMW wanted 1590$. Amazon had a Chinese one for 226$... Guess which one I have now? And it arrived one day ahead of schedule!
After watching several FWD racers break CV joints on the autocross course, I paid Shelby $650 for a pair of axles that he guaranteed I could not break. I broke lots of parts on that car, but never broke those axles, as he had welded CV's from a larger car on to 1982 Charger axles.

I still prefer to receive cheques from customers but only in person. The gov. still sends out cheques.

My half shafts are good, just needed the drive shaft... It goes from the transfer case to the front diff.

Things went from mostly normal to totally screwed nearly overnight. One man, whoever he is, can't do that.

I would tend to believe that some nefarious hackers got into their tracking and routing system. Ditto the total US air space shutdown a couple weeks ago that was allegedly caused by "a single line of corrupt code." If that is truly the case the FAA needs come new computer hardware with redundancy now before some real ugly stuff happens.

I had a big problem with DHL at the end of last year. They couldn't get it through their heads that if you want to deliver to a business location, you need to show up when that business is open - well, DUH... I had to personally go an pick up a PCBway order and an Exicon order at a local DHL hub. They didn't make that hub easy to find, either. For my last PCBway order, I opted for FedEx shipping, but PCBway shipped it via DHL anyway. I lucked out that time and got the order without having to pick it up.

I have never had an issue with Mouser. The service from Richardson Texas to the UK is superb. But, there's always a first time I guess.

I did have a lot of problems initially shipping PCB's into Europe (Brexit thing I believe), but that seems to have gone better - I only ship tracked.

DHL did the same thing to our business a few months ago, trying to make a delivery at 8 pm. Funny thing is we are open 24 hours and it took them three attempts to read the sign on the front door that says to go around to the back door after 5 pm.
After the first attempt we left special instructions on their web site, which apparently they didn't read either. The shipment took longer to get across town from DHL hub to us than it did from Germany to the USA.
