Scheduled for resolution Using the named day of the week in the date of a post is confusing to people who don't know what day it is which is probably half of us

No year, month, day. it shows for example: Sunday at 10:30 AM. I hope this is not the way it will be. Note: If one hovers mouse over the date it shows the whole date as we usually look at. Also if using the Enhanced print feature the date does not show up. Real problems if trying to save in a chronological order. Only started happening in the last week.

As an example to maybe help, I copied and pasted the posts on the SLB thread into a word doc. After editing the profile and the dates in the new platform, the screenshot below is what works for me. It gives me the date, the time, the member, and the post number. I think I have saved up to 5-6 lines per post which is great if you have to print.

Thanks, you folks are doing great work.

I think "Sunday at 10:30 AM" is a more human readable form for the date above a post, if it's been in the last week. Isn't that much nicer to read than trying to unscramble a YYYY-MM-DD and perform date subtraction in your head for a post that's been made recently?

It switches to a full international YYYY-MM-DD format if it's longer in the past, eg "2021-03-29 4:21 pm".

Regards the print thread dates I see dates in the top RHS of each post. If you don't, please post a screenshot. I feel that in the print thread version it should show indeed show the YYYY-MM-DD format, as it's more of an archive thing.

Sunday 10:30 AM? When I read this I have to now figure out (1) what day today is: Friday. Next I have to figure out how many days before today and Sunday. Next I have to check what date today is.

None of this is necessary when a specific date and time is shown. After 1 week what does it change then? Last Sunday?

I agree with you Jason, it is more pleasing to read the day in the thread. so no problems their.

When I copy and paste from the thread to a word doc, the date does not show up when hovering over the day with my mouse, it only shows when hovering over the day in the original thread.

Not sure why the formatting does not copy over?

I don't think we can invest in supporting an OS-specific cut and paste to a 3rd party word processing application.

However, most certainly I am happy to invest in a kick-*** OS-agnostic "enhanced thread print" PDF output (for donors). Improving the print thread functionality to be really useful and on-point is on the roadmap.

Please do contribute any thoughts on how you would like the enhanced print thread functionality to work here:

In regards to word, you might try cut and paste to textpad/sublime text/write/etc style pure text editor as an intermediary step to strip formatting.

Jason, thanks for the update. You have my screenshots that show what I like. At the moment after I copy and paste, I then insert the actual date (yyyy-m- d) in 1 of the threads and copy to all the listed threads for that day, leaving the today or yesterday intact. No need to edit it out.

What I delete out is : member, paid member, avatar, and add bookmark. This saves a lot of space in a word doc.

I am getting pretty fast at this, and if you keep up with the thread, it is not that much editing. I only save files on projects I will build, and try to not get to far ahead of myself.

So, I am onboard with how ever you would like the dates to look and function. No need for any OS for my needs. Editing keeps the mind sharp.

You guys are doing a great job so far.

My wife tells me often that I do not think like others. For me, if I was looking to save the important details in a thread, it would be the author, the date, the post number, the images and of course the text wanted.

All the fluff like the whether a person is a member, paid member, add bookmark, and avatar, really add no value to a document that is being composed so that it will help you build the project in the future. This fluff is better suited for the main thread as it is now.

I am not sure how much work it would be to tailor some code that lets people choose the check boxes they would like to see in a enhanced print thread function. Maybe a drop box with boxes to check. I would donate some funds (along with other interested members) if this is feasible.

What's the issue exactly? You'd prefer them aligned to the RHS not LHS?

If so that's definitely a taste preference. There are menu items in the top RHS so if you moved the numbers to the RHS at the bottom you'd have them top LHS then bottom RHS which would also look weird. However I know the eye draws from top left to bottom right so an argument could be made for that. Please confirm this is your issue / request however.

Hi Jason! Greetings.

This is not an issue so much as a preference. As I use the mouse to scroll the page on the RHS, I find it convenient to access the page numbers on the right to go to the next page or a particular page. Please don't change it for me.

Also. the earlier issue about not being able to quote multiple times: actually the issue was not being able to move the cursor to the underneath the quote box, whatever I was typing appeared in the quotation box. I will send a screenshot if it happens again.

Got it.

I agree with you and think the bottom LHS is not the ideal place for a page selector, but my OCD side says it's better to be consistent with where the page numbers are at the top of the page, which is the LHS. Perhaps they could be centered. I'll keep your comments in mind when we are doing our future aesthetic reviews.

Just to loop back to the original post (thread title updated), the plan currently is to change the dates to not show day of the week, instead:

  • If < 60 mins "X mins ago"
  • If < 24 hours "X hours ago"
  • If < 2 days "yesterday"
  • Everything further back show the format chosen in user preferences, defaults to YYYY-MM-DD
